Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Organizes NATIONAL WORKSHOP on SIMULATION OF RF MEMS, MICROWAVE AND OPTICAL DEVICES July 4th and 5th, 2008 SSN INSTITUTIONS Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering (SSNCE) is the outcome of the vision and initiative of Padma Bhushan Mr. Shiv Nadar, Chairman of HCL Technologies Ltd. and a pioneer in the field of Information Technology. The Institution reflects the deals of its founder and seeks to achieve excellence as an advanced research centre in Information and Communication Technology domains. Management Committee Members Ms. Kala Vijayakumar, President - SSN Institutions, Mr. P. Sivaprasad, Chairman - Governing Council, Mr. N. Ranjit, Chairman - Strategic Planning and Policies and the Principal Dr. S. Salivahanan facilitate the good governance of the institution. The Institution was established in 1996 on a sprawling campus of 250 acres at Old Mahabalipuram Road – known as “Cyber Corridor” of Chennai. The campus comprises aesthetically designed buildings that are networked by fiber optic cables. The Institution offers six B.E. / B.Tech. degree programmes in EEE, ECE, CSE, IT, Chemical, Mechanical and Bio Medical Engineering. In addition, five M.E. degree programmes in Communication Systems, Applied Electronics, Computer Science & Engineering, Computer & Communication, and Power Electronics & Drives, MBA and MCA. The admission is done purely on the basis of merit. The Institution is certified with ISO 9001:2000 and the UG programmes have been accredited by NBA. THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers B.E. degree programme in ECE as well as M.E. degree programmes in Communication Systems and Applied Electronics. The prominent and leading employers including HCL, CTS, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Polaris, iNautix, Satyam, Patni, Birla Soft, Hexaware, L&T Infotech, Verizon, Caritor etc., have made its placement record excellent. The department is well-equipped with the state-of-art laboratories. The department has organized 5 faculty development programmes sponsored by Anna University, many workshops and 2 short term training programme sponsored by AICTE – ISTE. The department has organized International Conference on “Wireless Communication and Networks” in 2003 and a national conference on “Bio–Signal Communication & Networking - NCBCN 2005”. Also, organized Intelligent Sensing & Information Processing” in collaboration with Melbourne University, Australia, in 2005 and “HiPAAC 2007” in association with CSE.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP One of the most exciting and rapidly growing set of applications in communication industry are those involving high efficiency, high accuracy and low cost RF MEMS, Microwave and Optical Devices. Developing such circuits and subsystems requires a series of engineering trade-offs at the device, component, and circuit level that are limited by the technology. Wireless engineers in the broadband, multi-standard world need a better way of doing things, and better technologies that can easily handle these widely varying signals. The IntelliSuite Electromagnetic Analysis Module is specifically designed to address the needs of researchers in RF MEMS, microwave, and Optical MEMS by providing fast, accurate, cost-effective solutions for high frequency electromagnetic phenomena. IntelliSuite makes it easy for anyone with a background in MEMS to safely navigate the pit falls of high-frequency analysis. RF MEMS module was designed with the user in mind, with no arcane interfaces or complex waveform models.IE3D is a full-wave, method-of-moments based electromagnetic simulator solving the current distribution on 3D and multilayer structures of general shape. It has been widely used in the design of MMICs, RFICs, LTCC circuits, microwave/millimeter-wave circuits, IC interconnects and packages, HTS circuits, patch antennas, wire antennas, and other RF/wireless antennas. The programme covers • Design flow of RF, Microwave, MEMs and optical Devices. • Accurate Modeling of RF, Microwave, MEMs and optical Devices • High efficiency, high accuracy and low cost electromagnetic simulation tools for RF, Microwave, MEMs and optical Devices • Electromagnetic optimization RESOURCE PERSONS The various sessions for the above courses will be handled by the experts drawn from the industries and academicians from leading Institutions, in addition to the inhouse experts
