Sports Journalism & Match Reporting
Diploma SPJ15A
Journalism, Media & Photography
Do you enjoy writing?
Do you enjoy meeting people?
Do you enjoy playing or watching sports?
If you said, "yes" to these questions and would like to know more then read on ...

The Sports Journalism & Match Reporting Course is all about going to sports games or sporting events and venues, mixing with the players or competitors, then reporting it to an audience who appreciate every word you’ve written. No matter what sport you like one thing is for sure ... this country wants to read about it.

Through this course you are going to learn how to write structured articles, conduct interviews, prepare features, write match reviews and submit your work to editors.

You will learn how sports journalists do their job, how they interview players and competitors, how they get lively ‘quotes’, how they write exciting match reports and how they get them published with their name underneath.

It doesn't matter what the sport is. Just about any sport has a market:

tennis
surfing
skiing
hockey
netball
football
cricket
swimming
beach volleyball
badminton
golf
cycling
As you can see there is a lot to write about.

Career opportunities include: Freelance Sports Journalist, Sports Writer, Match Reporter, Sports Marketer.

Industries include: newspaper/magazine publishing, television/media, corporate/government.

Sports journalists write and edit sports stories, features and reviews for newspapers, magazines and for radio or television stations. A sports journalist may perform the following tasks:

attend sporting matches, games and events and write sports stories and/or match reports
undertake research to provide background information for articles
assess the suitability of reports and articles for publication or broadcasting, within an established style and format, and edit as necessary
write articles that comment on or interpret news events, and that may put forward a point of view on behalf of the publication/broadcasting agency
comment on television/radio (in the broadcasting industry)
work with a sports photographer to report on games and events
liaise with all sorts of people, particularly those in the media business.
