Posted Date: 05 Jul 2008 Resource Type:

Rating:
Points
: 2
Objectives:
* identify flaws in the argument and what the author concludes by the argument (which obviously is flawed)
* State reasons " why the argument is flawed"
* Suggest a better solution- if any & if it suits the passage.
* And finally suggest how the flaw effects the conclusion and there by making the conclusion flawed.
Time Management:
30 minutes is the given time.
· 5 minutes to 10 minutes read the passage and identify major flaws. Generally 5 minutes is sufficient
· 20 minutes to state all the major flaws and reasons why they are flawed.
· 5 minutes to check the whole passage again.
Interpreting the Argument:
As part of an argumentative passage we have 3 parts
Evidence: The author provides little evidence which is obviously inadequate as in such a short passage it is not possible to justify the evidence part.
Assumptions: These evidences trigger little assumption, when the evidence is not compact, assumptions are dubious.
Conclusion: Since evidence is inadequate assumptions are flawed the conclusion cannot be accepted.
