NEW DELHI: BSNL on Tuesday announced that it has ?rationalised? call charges for its Public Call Offices (PCOs). The tariffs for local calls will now be Re 1 per minute with a 60-second pulse, irrespective of the type of PCO used.
The service provider has also slashed tariffs by Re 0.50 per minute for STD calls made from its GSM PCOs. Currently, for the same pulse rate, the tariffs are different based on the type of public booth used - coin collection box (CCB), GSM-based PCO or village public telephones (VPTs).
So far, CCBs and GSM-based PCOs were on a 30-second pulse and thus users had to pay Rs 2 for a one-minute call. Now, the user will have to pay only Re 1 for one-minute call. ?BSNL has rationalised the call charges from its GSM PCOs/CCB PCOs/Local PCOs/Local VPTs. The STD calls from GSM PCOs have been cut to Rs 2.50/minute from Rs 3.00/minute,? BSNL said.
The minimum guarantee for local PCOs has also been slashed from Rs 500 to Rs 300 per month in urban areas. It has also liberalised the policy for allotment of PCOs to include those who are running private operators' PCOs. The tariff for GSM PCOs is applicable from today, while that for the others is applicable from November 1, '06.
