The past decade has seen unparalleled changes in the practice of management. Widespread use of information technology, emergence of knowledge economy, stiff competition due to globalization, international mergers and acquisitions, and outsourcing, etc., have thrown up unprecedented opportunities and new challenges. Strategy formulation and policy design are now being pursued with renewed vigor. It is now, than ever before, that we need systems thinking as a tool for managerial policymaking. System dynamics provides a framework for such systems thinking and can be fruitfully utilized to sharpen the managements ability to formulate strategies and design policies to take advantage of the opportunities and meet the challenges.
System Dynamics Society of India has been organizing National Conferences on System Dynamics bi-annually. The last two conferences were held in Hubli(Kanataka) during December 2006 and in Hyderabad (AP) during June 2007.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, is organizing the next conference in February 2008.
Conference objectives
The objective of this conference is to make participants (from academicians, practicing decision makers, researchers, students of post graduation and under graduation programmes from any discipline more particularly of management and engineering) aware with the potentials, utility and usefulness of system thinking and system dynamics in improving understanding the domains of their activities and adopting improvement interventions in a systematic and appropriate manner for sustainable long run success, this would be achieved through:
Facilitating close interactions and expert advices on each of the presented papers.
Holding awareness sessions on Systems Thinking and System Dynamics for beginners.
Including special sessions for researchers and students separately with provision for Best Paper Awards.
Giving special emphasis on real live cases with systems thinking and system dynamics applications.
Providing guidelines to carry out research and field applications in the areas of systems thinking and system dynamics.
Organizing panel discussions with eminent persons from different areas to move forward adaptation of this methodology in different walks of human endeavours.
