The end of this summer, that is by the end of this May we had been to Tirunelveli and around for a week. We had been to Tiruchendur, Kanyakumari, Manimutharu etc. These places are well known to many. But before we went on that tour, I made a research in the web about the places we could visit in and around. Any special place which is unexplored. I happenned to stumble across a place named Kalikesam. It is 27kms from Nagarkoil. Near the Balmore estate and Vattaparai falls. After our stay at Kanyakumari and a dip at Tipparappu falls, we started towards Kalikesam. The driver himself was not aware of the place. So we enquired all the way. The entire stretch was on the ghats, the scenic beauty cannot be described by words.
The climate was absolutely pleasant and when we reached the place, wow, we had no words to explain. My friend whose native is Nagerkoil had warned me that there will be no mobile signal so we were absolutely cut off from the rest of the world. There is a Kali Temple on the banks of a forest river. The river was just ankle deep as it was summer. But when there is rains, the river used to flow up to the top foot step of the temple said the priest.
The place is absolutely deserted except on Tuesdays and Fridays and the only person present will be the temple priest. Apart from the temple on one bank, the only other buiding in that area is the canteen on the other bank of the river.
The water was so chill first and once we got used to it, we didnot had heart to step out of it. A must place to visit.
