National Workshop on Nonlinear Optics (NWNO-2008) 4-5 January 2008
Organized by Department of Science and Humanities National Institute of Technology Calicut
ABOUT NONLINEAR OPTICS
Nonlinear optics is the study of interaction of intense laser light with matter. Ever since the invention of lasers in 1960, much progres has been made in the field of nonlinear optics. Variety of experimental and theoretical studies have been done on nonlinear optical systems. Many nonlinear optical processes like second harmonic generation, sum and difference frequency generation, third harmonic generation, two-photon absorption, stimulated Raman effect and optical Kerr effect have been observed experimentally and modeled theoretically. The purpose of the Workshop is to provide a forum for both senior and young scientists from different parts of our country to present and discuss current research activities and also to provide a platform for discussion of all aspects of nonlinear optics, including new phenomena, novel devices, advanced materials and applications. The Workshop will deal with experimental and theoretical aspects of nonlinear optics and applications.
All participents should register on or before 26th December 2007
Registration fee for workshop is Rs. 250/- for all participants.
Registration fee should be sent as demand draft in favour of Convener ( NWNO-2008) Department of Science and Humanities, NIT Calicut.
ABOUT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY CALICUT National Institute of Technology Calicut was established in year 1960 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Kerala. This institution was granted Deemed University Status in the year 2002 and renamed as National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC). NITC has ten departments and six centers. It offers eight undergraduates, nine postgraduate programmes apart from Ph.D degree programme. NITC is a premier institution of India and is known for its high standards in teaching and research. NITC is 20 KM away from Calicut town. Calicut town is well connect by direct trains and by air to all major cities in India.
ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES The Department of Science and Humanities (DSH) undertakes academic and research activities in the disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, Economics and English. Faculty with proven teaching and research capabilities are available in the department. Besides the core courses in these areas for B.Tech, we are offering elective courses for both B.Tech and M.Tech in specific topics on emerging areas of science and technology, tailored to suit the needs of technical professionals. Also PhD programmes are available in a variety of cutting edge technology and multidisciplinary thrust areas of Physics and Chemistry like Molecular and Organic Electronics, Photonics, Laser science and technology, Electronic structure, Low dimensional systems, Polymer science and technology, Polymer nano composites, Soft condensed matter, Micro and nano structuring and Liquid crystal display development.
ABOUT CALICUT Calicut ( Now known as Kozhikode) was the traditional capital of Northern Kerala under the Samuthiri rule. Being the most important city of Malabar region of Kerala it was a leading trade centre for spices on the West Coast of India during the medieval period. Now Calicut has also become major center of higher education in Kerala. It is the home town of institutions of national importance including IIM Kozhikode, NIT-Calicut, CWRDM etc.
