Infrastructure:
Vasavi, in constant pursuit of offering quality education, has created excellent infrastructural facilities and established certain advanced laboratories (CISCO-Networking Lab, VLSI Design Centre, Embedded Systems, DSP, CAD/CAM and GIS) dealing with contemporary technologies. The Phonetics Lab, the Interactive Communication Lab and Reading Room were set up, much before it was made mandatory by the University, to improve the communication skills of the students. Recently the English Language Lab is upgraded to Multi media Lab.
631 systems with latest configuration including 274 in college main computer center are networked by way of a LAN. 2 mbps internet connectivity allows students and staff to access the Internet from anywhere in the campus.
The College has a Central Library with 9,759 titles and 61,188 volumes.
The College also subscribes to 83 National Journals and 55 International Journals. A book-lending scheme offers the full set of text books to the students with a nominal annual payment. The College encourages participation of students in sports, games, technical seminars and cultural activities. Our students and staff participate in inter-collegiate and national level contests.
FACULTY
The College has 166 highly qualified and experienced faculty members including 32 Ph.Ds. During the last two years, we could add to our faculty several industry professionals and Professors from IITs, IISc and other reputed Universities after their superannuation. Two Adjunct Professors, viz., Prof. Ganti Prasada Rao, Fellow, IEEE & presently a Member of the UNESCO-EOLSS Joint Committee and Dr. V. Ramakrishnan, Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Rapid City, USA, are supporting our academic programmes.
Staff Development Programme
With a view to strengthening the teaching-learning process and quality improvement, College has introduced staff development programmes. The faculties are encouraged to attend/participate in seminars, conferences, short term courses and also present papers at Seminars and Conferences.
Around 50 papers were presented in conferences or published in reputed journals in the last academic year by our faculty.
The College also encourages faculty to pursue their higher education while in service by providing assistance in the form of academic leave, reduction in their class work etc. Presently 25 faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D. work.
Value Added Courses:
In order to strengthen the teaching-learning ambience and to prepare the undergraduates to meet the challenges of the global work environment, Vasavi has taken up several initiatives like offering value-added courses (CISCO Networking, VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, J2EE, CAD, CAM, FEA, GIS, STAAD and Wireless Communication) and interfacing with the industry to bridge the gap between the curriculum and the requirements of the industry.
Incidentally, Vasavi happens to be the first institution in the State to establish such advanced laboratories, including language laboratories, and to offer the value-added courses.
Partnerships:
With a view to provide experiential learning and expose the students to the emerging trends and contemporary technologies in the industry, the College has forged useful linkages with various corporate houses.
Our Students:
Our students have been consistently achieving good academic results and ranks. In the year 2007, our students from CSE and Mechanical Engineering achieved a pass percentage of 100%, Production Engineering 98.46%, ECE 98.45%, IT 96.88%, EEE 95.77% and Civil Engineering achieved 87.72%, while the overall pass percentage of that year was 97.37%. During the year 2007 our students secured 21 University Ranks including Three 1st Ranks and Four 2nd Ranks.
Merit Scholorships/Awards/Gold Medals instituted by the College & Others:
In order to create a healthy competition among our students for academic excellence, our Management has generously come forward with a merit scholarship scheme. The top two students of each Section in any particular year are given Rs.3,000/- and Rs.2,000/- respectively.
Gold Medals
The students who obtain highest percentage of marks in all the 4-years of their Course are awarded gold medals, branch-wise in recognition of their excellent performance in Osmania University examinations. We also recognize the University 1st ranker by giving a silver plaque and a cash award of Rs.5,000/-.
Professional Practice School
To expose the students to the industrial environment, the college has introduced Professional Practice School to associate 2nd year B.E. students with an industry during their summer vacation.
Student Development Programmes
To equip the students with the skills matching with industry requirements/expectations and to face the process of selection for placements, a 6-week structured training programme is conducted during summer vacation to the 3rd year BE students.
Proctorial System
For close monitoring of the academic progress and holistic development of our students, proctorial system was implemented. Under this System, students are kept under the care and guidance of our faculty members.
Placements:
A no. of reputed Companies in IT, Manufacturing and Construction Sectors recruited our students during the academic year 2007-08. The College is among the Top 50 Private Engineering Colleges in India, ranked 27th by ‘HINDUSTAN TIMES C-Fore’ Survey published in June 2008 at www.cfore.org
