How a teacher should be? What is happening now?
Importance of teacher is well-known since Ramayana & Mahabharata.Ram-Lakshman, Pandav all had Guru;Guru Vasishta for Ram-Lakshman & Dronacharya for Pandav. In modern schools and colleges also , teacher has important place. Guru is needed in each field- engineering, medicine, accountancy, etc.
Teacher is one who guides the student in his studies.With his experience and mastery in subject,he helps students in solving their problems.
Teaching is an art. Not everybody knows it.
How a teacher should be ?
He should love his subject
He should have thorough knowledge of his subject
He should love teaching
He should love his students but he should behave strictly if somebody does mistakes.
He should be patient as every student will not have similar intelligence and some may be slow learners. He should not get angry with them but should try to make them understand the subject.
Good teacher gets respect in society & becomes close to student’s family. He plays important role in making “SANSKAR”. He is the one who monitors student’s behaviour in schools.
But what is happening nowadays?
All teachers don’t teach properly in schools/colleges. They arrange for private tuitions. Take extra fees and teach well in tuitions. Students who attend tuitions, get more marks in practicals. Some teachers have left their jobs and they are involved only in private coaching. Some teachers ask for gifts, etc for giving good marks in exams.This happens more commonly for professional courses- medicine,engineering,etc
Some teachers don’t behave properly with female students and some of them have got punished also.
Some teachers have beaten students so badly that students have suffered serious injuries and there are a few reports where student has died.
Why this is happening? Why there is a change in attitude?
Some teachers have to pay money for getting jobs. Teachers are getting less money-salary in schools. There is no job security. They have to go in rural areas.Society also considers a person good if he earns more money
Some students are oversmart and don’t respect teachers.
Who has to change this?
We all have to work for this. Thus if we solve this problem,our children will get good teachers.
How this can be achieved?
Have good communication with your child's teacher.
Discuss with him about the problems,regarding weaknesses of your child.
