About the Institute: The institute was initially established as Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering & Technology in 1961 and was upgraded as a National Institute of Technology with the status of ‘Deemed University’ on 4th October, 2002. SVNIT is one of the pioneering engineering institutions of the country which has contributed many outstanding engineers in India & abroad. It is conducting seven UG programs, eighteen PG programs, and a Ph.D. program in all disciplines of engineering and applied sciences. Special attention is given to interdisciplinary researches. The institute has an excellent placement record with a number of top ranking companies visiting the campus every year.
About the Department: The Department of Mechanical Engineering came into existence in the year 1961. The department has 40 qualified and dedicated faculty members with the specializati on in various areas. The department is conducting two UG programs (Mechanical Engineering & Production Engineering), five PG programs (Mechanical Engineering, Turbo Machines, Industrial Process Equipment Design, CAD/CAM, and Thermal System Design) and a research program leading to Ph.D. degree.
About the Training Program: The two days training program on ‘Multi-Criteria Decision Making and its Industrial Applications’ is scheduled to be held during September 27-28, 2008. The main objective of this training program is to promote the application of optimization methods in the industries. The training program provides a forum in which the participants obtain information about recent advances of optimization sciences and learn about the needs of engineering sciences and successful applications of multi-criteria optimization methods in industries. It tries to close the gap between optimization theory and the practice of engineering.
The proposed training program presents all traditional and advanced methods of multi-criteria optimization of relevance to applications in industrial environment. It also highlights successful applications of optimization in various areas and contains sessions for the participants without a strong background in the field, which offer material aimed at educating potential users of optimization methodologies. Also, effective decision making methodologies will be presented.
Eligibility for Participation: The training program is open to working personnel from industry/R&D Organizations, engineering college teachers and students. As the training program is of interdisciplinary nature, engineering faculty members of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Applied Mechanics, and Chemical engineering disciplines can attend the program.
Topics to be Covered: - Multi-criteria decision making methods such as Analytical hierarchy process (AHP), TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, Compromise ranking method (VIKOR), Graph Theory, etc. - Decision making under conflicting situations, Multi-objective optimization with constraints - Genetic algorithms, Simulated annealing, etc. - Various interdisciplinary industrial world case studies
Registration Fee: - Faculty members: Rs. 1000 - Participants from Industry / R&D organizations: Rs. 1200 - Students: Rs. 500
Payment of registration fees should be made in favor of “Director, SVNIT, Surat”. Selected participants are eligible for free training program kit, lunch, snacks, etc. during the programme.
Program Faculty: Senior faculty members of SVNIT Surat.
Duration of the Program: The program will be conducted on 27 th and 28th of September 2008 from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM with a lunch break of 45 minutes duration.
Last Date of Registration: The completed registration form has to be sent first by e-mail as an attachment (ravipudirao@rediffmail.com) and then as a hard copy along with the DD on or before 25-09-2008.
