The Indian Statical Institute was founded in 1931 by professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. This institue is a dream for most of the sutdent eager to make a career traffic in research.
COurses
Its programmes are conducted in its three centres located in Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore. The institute offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in statistics and maths.
@ Three year bachelors programme in statistics (Hons) is offerd at Kolkata.
@ Three year bachelors programme in mathematics (Hons) progamme at Bangalore offers instruction in basic mathematics, along with rudimentary curses in
probability, statistics, computing and physics.
@ Two years masters in statistics is offered in Delhi, that includes advanced level training in the theory, methods and applications of statistics and specialised training in selected areas of statistics and allied fields.
@ Two years masters in mathematics is offered at Kolkatta campus. On the successful completion of the course, students would be able to pursue research/ academic caree in mathematics. Depending on the choice of the optional subjects, the students would also be able to work in the fields of probability theory and theoretical ocmputer science.
@ Two year master of technology in computer science is offered at Kolkata campus. On completing the programme students have the option of either taking up professional career in the technology of software for computer systems or specialised application areas, or pursuing an academic career for futher study and research in computer science and technology and related disciplines.
Selection Procedure
Bachelors courses are open to students completing 10+2 with maths and English. The selection test comprises objective type and short - answer type questions in mathematics at the 10+2 level. Based on performance in the tests, shortlisted candidates are called for interview.
Candidates with BStat (Hons) degree from ISI are offered direct admission to two-year MStat without any selection test and interview. For other eligible canditates, selection fro admission to MStat is based on academic record, performance in written selection test and subsequent interview. The selection test consist of two papers, objective and short-answer-questions based.
Notification
Admission notification is expected every year in January and selection testare conducted accordingly in May at centres in India and abroad.
