Acne Vulgaris - Adolescents Must Know


One should be aware of this as acne is a common health problem and Rx is costly. As every youngster is concerned about cosmesis, acne Rx has got a lot of importance.

One has to first see what type of skin he/ she has. Acne is common in youngsters with an oily skin.

Cleaning



1. The most important points are

a. Hygiene and

b. Preventive skin care.

Regular washing of the affected areas with mild soap is a must. The soap should not contain any strong chemicals designed to prevent pimples . However, excessive face wash is harmful as it will make skin dehydrated .


Don'ts For Acne



A. Avoid excess tea, coffee, cold-drinks,coke, fast foods, Chinese foods, chips, processed foods. These all foods invite acne.

B. Be selective while choosing moisturizers, makeup and other skin care products. If these products are oil based, it would just make the problem worse. Prefer water based products instead.


C. Don’t, rub, press or squeeze our pimples. When this is done, there is a risk of spreading the bacteria to other areas.

D. Avoid excess stress and extreme psychological challenges

E. Avoid unnecessary hormone supplements. Take only if doctor has advised.

Do's For Acne



1. Take lemon juice. Dilute it in water. Apply externally. This is a very cheap Rx which everybody can afford. It works because of its antiseptic quality. One of the reason for acne is Propionibacterium acnes - anaerobic microbe.

2. Apply tea tree oil directly to infected pores.

3. Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin. It reduces sebum and helps in regeneration of skin cells. Vitamin A tablets are essential for effective cure.

4. Juice of raw papaya , fresh tomato pulp, honey and rose-water can be applied on pimples to get an excellent result.

5. Use of potato slices or fenugreek leaves is also suggested.

6. Drink plenty of water and vegetable soups and fruit juices. This is the most important suggestion. Diet should be rich in salads, fresh juices, cottage cheese, fish and yogurt. These help to cleanse the system and ward off pimples.

7. Face packs / Facial – Regeneration of skin cells and removal of dead cells is essential. This is why regular “Facial” is essential.
Use sandal, cucumber or other fruit and vegetable packs to cure pimple scars.
Use of turmeric ( haldi) powder for facewash is recommended. Apply milk cream.
Some people use “fem” products for facial.

Market preparations like various cosmetic creams are not much helpful.
Nutmeg, almonds, are very useful . Almonds are also useful for black circles around eyes.
