The traditional definition of literacy is considered to be the ability to read and write, or the ability to use language to read, write, listen, and speak. It enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society.
As per Census of 2201, the Kerala State in India has recorded a 90.92% literacy rate in 2001. It is considered as a state having highest literacy rate.
Although Government has sanctioned number of schools in cities and villages, there are lack of students especially in Government schools particularly in rural area. The rural people are too poor and are worried only about their day's bread and do not bother about the future. There are several schools which have no teachers and if at all there are teachers, there are no students to come to study. When will this situation change.
As people give more preference at rural sector only for their livelihood, government also started the Mid day meal programme, this although had a good response, probably it is not that effective.
As everybody know that literacy is making a person literate which helps him to be self reliant, it is everybody's duty to spread in literacy to make our country a literate country.
In order to achieve this, we have to teach others whatever we know so that they can atleast be literate enough to read and write.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. This is the picture of the rural sector and the outcome of the programmes introduced by the Government.
If everybody educate each others, then probably the literacy rate of our country would definitely improve. Be educated and educate others too. This will really help them to prosper in their lives.
Light a lamp of literacy in those lives who have not seen it. This will keep their life bright for ever.
Thanks and regards, Mala.
