When carrying coins and notes were set aside with the invention of the credit card, it was regarded as an asset. It created less tension as one no longer needed to constantly guard wads of money while traveling and made payment so much easier. Today, though, that same easy pay option has become a temptation to shop beyond controllable limits. The little piece of plastic has become a curse to many, as they fall into a debt trap.
To prevent that fall here are some basic thoughts: * Just think : do you really need a credit card? Agreed, you may find it easy to pay by card in some cases, such as booking an airline ticket online. Why not, though, book a ticket the old-fashioned way – contact a local travel agent, pay him by cheque, and that’s it. * Just think : do you have to pay for a cola and burger with a credit card? Surely you can pay for such and other small items with cash! * Just think : do you really want the pair of jeans hanging in the shop window? Realize the difference between need and want. * Just think : do you really require such a high credit limit on your card? Know your limits and you will automatically spend less. * Just think : why did you ignore the due date of your credit card statement? Pay your dues on time – always.
Stay away from credit card debt – don’t apply for one!
