SSC Pilot Selection

I am Singaramani. Here i m posting my interview experience in SSC Pilot selection. It was a long process. I was not able to get thro', but it was a nice experience.
We wer asked 2 wait at mysore railway station on 29th morning b4 7 am. and the AFSB truck and bus left the staion xactly at 7.
DAY 1
* Certificates Verification - if any discrepancy, u'll b routed bac immediately
* INSB - Instrument Comprehension Battery Test >>> They take class on 6 meters used in air craft and v hav to answer questions based on that. This was easier.
* PABT - Pilot Aptitude battery Test >>> a game like test to test ur reflexes. Shud hav good reflexes and be able to control a joystick, a lever and pedals simultaneously while being receptive to audio from head phone.
INSB and PABT are once in a life time tests. Once u fail, u hav no further chances to appear for pilots in IAF. But this were easier. Candidates failing in this will be routed bac on the same day.
DAY 2
* OIR - Officers Intelligence Rating Test >>> logical reasoning. easier. but hav 2 answer 60 questions in 20 mins.
* PPDT - Picture Perception and Discussion Test >>> They show u a vague n unclear picture. U hav 2 identify the no. of characters, their mood, sex, and develop a story based on the picture. and then ther will b a GD based on tat n ur group hav to come to a conclusion abt evry aspect mentioned. This is a screening test and ppl failing in this will be routed bac.
The rest (32 this time) ppl will hav to stay for another 3 days.
* Psychology tests
* U will be shown a picture frame and hav to develop story on that. 4 mins per picture and 15 pictures totally. The 15th one is blank screen and u hav develop a story on that.
* Word Association Test - Words keep changing on the screen and u hav to write what comes first to ur mind on seeing the word. 15 seconds per word and totally 60 words.
* Situation Reaction test - 40 mins. 60 situations and some are repeated. Our answers for the repeated situations shud be consistent.
* Write Wat ur parents say abt u, ur teachers say abt u, ur friends say abt u, wat u think abt u and how u want u to be.
DAY 3
* Group Test 1 - They show u a miniature of some location and give u a situation, conditions and constraints. U hav to write abt how ur group of 8 ppl will act. Then ur group ll hav a gd wer u shud come 2 a conclusion.
It is followed by 2 GDs
* PGT - Progressive Group Task >>> Ther r four sets of hurdles. One is tougher than the b4. U shud plan and cross al of them. U hav a log of wood, a plank, a rope and a delicate load. Lots of conflicts among ideas here. U hav to sort em out n keep going.
* Group Race - Race between two teams. U ahv to cross many similar obstacles by carrying a rolled up tent -like load. Evry one shud carry the load always. While crossing an obstacle atleast 3 shud carry. If u break a rule u get penalty of 5 secs for the first time and it incerases by 5secs evry time u fault. Our team got the highest penalty :P and won the rae too. B-)
* Half Group Task - Same as PGT, but with 4 members per team. only 1 hurdle.
DAY 4
* Comamnd Task - Similar hurdles. U r the commander. U can call two helpers from ur group. They do wat u say. If u ask him bite the dust, he shud. This is to test how gud a commander a a sub-ordinate u r.
* Individual tasks - A series of 10 hurdles. 1-10 pts based on the difficulty. Includes monket crawling, rope climbing, jumping to, catching and descending down the rope, going thru a tyre, crossing a burma bridge(walking over a rope), walking over a narrow wood at some ht, etc... soem wer easier, some wer risky. All these to b completed with in 3 mins. I attempted 9, completed 7 and 6 were flawless. Got slightly hurt too. Theri treatment was severe than the pain of the injury. :P
DAY 5
* Interview - 40 mins - 1 hr
All personal details. Some situation and ur reaction. Some questions abt wat ur frens, teachers, parents feel abt u. All these shud match with wat u wrote in psych test.
Then abt graduation and schooling. This was wher i was trapped. Seeing my academic records, it was so clear that i was ther because of recession. Asked y i did not try for NDA, CDSE etc??? :(
Then some questions abt my hobbies, interests, pocket money, favourite heroines etc...
DAY 6
About 25-30 officers, including psych, group test evaluaters will be sitting in the room around a horse-shoe shaped table. Wat a sight! Paakkave sema geth ah irunthathu!! U go in. Hear a voice calling ur name. It comes from the chief selection officer b4 whom u find a pair of Indian flag and IAF flags. Asks u abt ur stay, mess etc. He was delighted on my +12 marks. Asked me if i was ther due to recession. I replied "Thats also a reason".
Q: Y u want to join IAF which ur dad has left??
A: Leaving was his option and joining is mine.
He smiled. Thank u. and i left. The final conference lasts not more than 2-3 mins.
And finally results announced wher only 2 out of 32 made it. It was their 4th attempt. I wished them al the best for their medicals.
( Even after that they hav to top the All India merit list. And 74 weeks of vigorous training. If the performance is not progressive during training, they wont b routed bac but grounded ther it self. :( )
Get the 2 way travelling allowance. Leave AFSB. They drop u from wer they took u.
But a GREAT xperience. The consoling news is that, i can apply for further interviews for flying branch as i hav cleared PABT which is a once in a life time test.
