How to prepare for competitive entrance exams
Board exams for 10 + 2 are over. Most of the college exams are also over or going to be over soon. Now the focus is shifting to various competitive entrance examinations.
These days, many educational institutions are holding competitive entrance exams for admitting students to their institutions. These educational institutions assess various abilities of a student such as subject knowledge, reasoning abilities, conceptual knowledge, general knowledge, knowledge of English, memory power etc. These entrance exams are specifically designed to access the above aspects in students aspiring to get admissions to these institutions.
Competitive entrance exams are also taken because the number of students applying for admissions is much more as compared to the number of seats. Thus, students have to face tough competition in order to get admission into reputed educational institution.
Therefore, a student has to prepare meticulously in order to do well in these entrance exams. Competitive entrance exams are totally different from the conventional school or university exams. Therefore, special preparation is needed for these entrance exams. So, how to prepare for the competitive entrance exams? Certain points are needed to be kept in mind by the student in order to be successful in these exams.
1. Confidence and Self-belief:
The student should have confidence in himself and belief in his own abilities. He should have a strong belief and confidence that he can clear the exam. everything can be achieved through belief.
2. Knowledge and Hard Work:
Knowledge is necessary to clear any competitive exam. The student should have good knowledge about fundamentals and concepts of the subject. Without this, he can never hope to clear the exam.
For gaining knowledge, a lot of hard work and preparation is necessary. Knowledge cannot be gained overnight. Conceptual knowledge can be perfected by reading and understanding the comcepts and then practicing questions based on these concepts.
3. Solving sample papers and past question papers:
This is most important. Solving sample papers and past question papers will give an idea about the type of questions asked in the entrance exam and also give a lot of practice to the student. This will help the student in the actual exam.
While practicing and also during the exam, a student must always pay attention to his speed i.e. how fast and accurately he can solve the questions. It is advisable not to spend too much time on a single question. If he is not able to solve that question in a particular time limit, he should leave the question and move ahead.
The student should solve easy questions first so that he will be assured of those marks at least. However, he must take care to mark the answers correctly in the answer sheet.
4. Time Management:
Firstly, a student must prepare a timetable for studying. Then he must study according to the timetable. Timetable must be prepared for the period up to the exam and then broken up into monthly, weekly and daily schedules.
The student must then keep a record of what and how much he has studied and review his performance regularly.
Initially, a student should study for 3 to 4 hours a day for the competitive exam. Later when the exam draws near, around 6 to 8 hours can be put in.
5. Sharpness of mind:
Sharpness of mind is needed for competitive exams. A sharp mind gives conceptual understanding, ability to think out difficult or tricky questions and speedy response to the questions.
