Medicinal uses of tea



Tea is a favourite drink of millions of people. It can be used for medicinal purposes. Ayurveda mentions the importance of medicinal teas. Its very popular in Egypt, China.
Herbal teas are prepared from flowers, leaves, seeds, roots.

How to prepare medicinal teas



1. Methods involved in making regular tea and medicinal teas are somewhat similar with a few differences.

2. Cover the water pot for maximum time to entrap the beneficial properties of the herb while making medicinal teas.

3. When making medicinal teas, more attention should be paid to see that there should be no aroma.

How excessive consumption of caffeine and regular tea can be harmful?



Excessive consumption of caffeine can cause –

1. High blood pressure

2. Cardiac disease

3. Cystic breast disease

Health benefits of herbal tea



1. Polyphenols in tea may decrease the risk of cancers of skin, stomach

2. Lower cholesterol levels thus reducing risk of heart disease.

3. Prevents blood clotting.

Spices are used to make tea more tastier and it adds medicinal value.

. Cinnamon is added and helps to relieve cold. Hyssop herbal tea has similar uses.

. Herbal Peppermint tea is useful in fever.

. Ginger Tea – This addition of ginger is a well known method of preparing tea. It helps in cold and gastric problems.

. Herbal tea is used to treat insomnia disorders.

. Rice herbal tea is used to treat diarrhea and vomiting.

. Secretion of breast milk increases with herbal tea.

. Amla herbal tea provides vitamin c. Vitamin c acts as antioxidant. This reduces harmful effects of free radicals.

. Herbal tea is available in various flavours like orange, blueberry, raspberry, pina coloda. Green Teas, black tea and many other varieties are available. Ginseng, hibiscus, tulsi are also used to prepare herbal tea. Tulsi has antioxidant properties and reduces blood glucose levels. Thus it is useful for diabetics. Tulsi reduces total cholesterol levels.
