An apple a day keeps doctor away. This old saying still holds true. American and British Heart Association have recommended regular apple consumption for the better health.

Contents of apple with its health benefits



. Apples contain vitamins like c, potassium, iron, flavonoids.

. Apple consumption is associated with reduced cancer chances.

. Apple is protective against Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, age-related memory loss.

. Apples are flavonoid-rich. So apples protect against heart disease. Flavonoids are present in fruits and vegetables, herbs, etc.

. Apples protect against oxidative stress which is responsible for many diseases like cancer, heart disease, age-related macular and cerebral( brain) degeneration, strokes, type II diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma. Flavonoids do this by preventing cell death.

. Postmenopausal woman should eat apples for a better heart as her estrogen protection has gone.

. Pregnant ladies should eat apples as it has iron which helps in increasing hemoglobin. This prevents anaemia which is very common in developing countries and can cause maternal deaths.

Anthocyanins are present in apples, blackberries, bilberry and give all the benefits of antioxidants. The microvessel damage in diabetes is prevented.
Apples are produced in Kashmir and Himachal due to favourable atmospheric conditions like cool climate. Apple trees need a lot of rain during the winter.
