This is for all the freshers out there yet to go for an interview. Where ever you go for the interview, what ever the post may be, the first question you will have to answer to is this.

"Tell me about yourself"

So, what do you say to this? You cant put out your life history which is of no concern to the HR. You need to tell him the things he wants to hear. What are those things he wants to hear?

Well, there is not exact list, but here are some guidelines.

1. Introduction about you:

Tell about who you are, where you are from, and what you are doing at the moment.

"I'm ....., a very energetic guy from ....., currently pursuing my ..... in ....."

2. Family Background:

Tell about who your parents are. Prefer using the words "father" and "mother" instead of using "dad" and "mom". Keep this short.

"I have been blessed with 2 wonderful parents, Mr.... who is a ..... and Mrs.... who is a... both of whom are very much supportive of me"

3. Educational Background:

Tell about your education. Your 10th and 12th aggregates, your diploma aggregate if any, and your current aggregate in college. Don't forget to mention your school's name.

"I have secured an aggregate of ..... in my ...."

4. Co-Curricular Activities:

This is about the paper presentations, projects that you have done so far. Certification courses and programs like Infosys Campus-Connect and BEC certification can be mentioned here.

"Project works highlight teamwork."

5. Extra-Curricular Activities:

Representation of school of college in sports, being in NSS, NCC and other clubs come here. These highlight various characters of yours. Even participation in yoga comes in this.

NSS - your responsibility towards helping others.
NCC - discipline, service-mentality.

Also, your interests are highlighted here by the clubs you are in.

6. Interests / Hobbies:

Tell about your various interests and hobbies. Here, the way in which you put across your interest matters.

Say you like watching movies. Instead of putting it as it is, you can tell it as "I like to watch films which have a strong script and puts across a message to the audience like ....". This shows that you give importance to purpose.

And having a hobby means that you are interested in knowing more about that area. Listening to music as a hobby is different from just listening to music to while away the time.

7. Goals:

Its important to have goals. They expect you to work towards goals. This can be either short term or long term. Its good to have both.

"My short term goal is to establish myself in the working community as a tax-paying citizen."

8. Strengths / Area of Improvement:

You need to bring out the positive qualities that highlight your character.

And fill in with the situations that prove your quality.

And no one is perfect. We all have areas of improvement. (Never say weakness).
"I used to be a very short-tempered person but now i'm improving on it by ..."

These are just guidelines. You need to prepare a self-introduction for yourself which will be unique. But do not forget to include the above mentioned points within.

Remember: Be positive throughout. That is what matters the most. They want positive, optimistic people working for them. And be confident.
