Read this one for Marina Beach detail, tourist place in Chennai. The best places to visit in Chennai, India.

Sea and beaches have always fascinated me right from when I was very young. India being a peninsular nation have a large coast line with lots of beaches all over.

Tamilnadu holds the pride of having the second largest beach in the world, the Marina Beach. Chennai's sea coast line have a vast area of settlement developed in and around the beach area. Some of the settlements are just very close to the sea that some places got affected by the Tsunami that came in the year 2004.

Marina Beach is the longest beach in Asia with 12 km long stretch. The entire stretch is all along the Bay of Bengal. Starting from St. George Fort upto Besant Nagar, the entire stretch is called as Marina Beach.

This beach is a major tourist attraction for Chennai and all along the Kamarajar Road (the road that runs parallel to the beach) the statues of lots of famous people (both national and also local) is placed.

The entire beach is sandy and is ideal to play cricket or any other beach games and one can find lots of youngsters playing there in the evenings and on holidays. The recent additions to the beach is the jogging track and one can see lots of people, both young and old either jogging or walking in the mornings.

One can see lots of famous buildings all along the coast line. Vivekananda House which is named after Swami Vivekananda as he stayed there for 9 days. Victoria War Memorial, Anna Memorial, MGR Memorial, University of Madras, Chepauk Campus, Presidency College, Queen Marys College, All India Radio, Chennai, Light House, Commissioner of Police Headquarters are the other buidings that can be seen. The buidings retain the old century favour and one can get an idea of the 18th century buidings.

Though swimming is not permitted in Marina beach, there are two swimming pools in the shore, one is Anna Swimming pool and the other is the Marina Swimming pool which helps the young kids getting trained in swimming or just to swim.

The beach is famous for its crowd and one will not wish to miss the famous Thengai Maangai Pattani Sundal. Even if you are not going to Marina Beach or if you are going to any other near by beach, you can make this at home and take it with you. A healthy snack too in a totally different taste.
