Seats in Diploma Courses in the Government Polytechnic Colleges are offered under the following categories:
(i) Seats under merit quota in Regular Diploma Courses.
(ii) Seats in Sandwich Courses: 50% seats under merit quota and remaining 50% seats under sponsored quota.
(iii) Seats offered under Multi Point Entry and Credit System (MPEC).

Candidates seeking admission under Special Categories like Sports Person, Ex-Servicemen, Physically Handicapped
should file application form separately prescribed for this purpose.

Candidates satisfying the following eligibility rules as on 01-07-2009 are alone eligible to apply.


Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu only will be considered for admission. However, the following categories of candidates are eligible to apply subject to certain conditions.
Children of Central Government Employees not domicile of Tamil Nadu may also apply and compete under
Open Competitions for admission, irrespective of their domicile, provided their parents or guardians (only if parents are not alive) are serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS at the time of submission of application which should be supported by enclosing a certificate from the employer of the parent or guardian.
Children of persons (not domicile of Tamil Nadu) employed in Private or Public or Government recognised
Institutions which are at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu may apply and compete for admission under open competition irrespective of their domicile provided a certificates from the management is enclosed along with the application that the person is permanent Employee of the Firm or
Institution concerned and is working in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS.
Tamil Nadu Candidates with Schooling in Tamil Nadu from IX Std. onwards need not enclose the Permanent Residence Certificate. In case they have passed the IX, X or their equivalent Examination from Schools situated outside Tamil Nadu, a copy of “Certificate of Permanent
Residence” (to be obtained from Tahsildhar) should be enclosed with the application for considering them as candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu.
Other State candidates with schooling in Tamil Nadu from IX Std. onwards need not enclose “Certificate of Permanent Residence”. They are eligible for Open Competition only.

Qualifying Examination

A pass in the 10th Standard (SSLC) or any other equivalent qualification.
Age Limit
No age limit.

Selection shall be made under five categories following the rules of reservation in force at the time of publication of the selection list.
(a) Open Competition
(b) Backward Class (Others)
(c) Backward Class (Muslims)
(d) MBC / DNC
(e) Schedule Caste
(f) Schedule Tribe

Candidates seeking admission against ST / SC /
MBC & DNC / BC (Others) / BC (Muslims) quota should obtain the certificate of social status in the prescribed permanent community cards and produce at the time of admission.
For Communities linked with Districts the candidate should obtain their Community Certificate in the respective districts only.

(i) No persons who professes a religion different from
Hinduism or Sikhism shall be deemed to be a member of a Scheduled Caste.
(ii) A member of the Scheduled Caste on conversion to
Christianity will be considered only under Backward class Christian and not under Scheduled caste, for admission purposes.
(iii) A member of the Scheduled Tribe will however continue to be treated as such a member irrespective of whether he/she is a convert to any religion or is a descendent of such a convert.
(iv) A Candidate who claims to belong to Scheduled
Caste by virtue of reconversion should give full details regarding date of reconversion and whether the candidate on such reconversion is accepted by members of the particular community of the locality where he/she resides as belonging to the particular community which he/she claims to be and submit the copy of relevant certificate for reconversion for competent authority and the copy of Gazette notification to the effect.
(v) ST / SC / MBC & DNC / BC (Others) / BC (Muslims) candidates are eligible for selection under Open
Competition in addition to the reservations made for them.
(vi) ST candidates should obtain the Community Certificates only from the, RDO of their native place or Collector of their districts or P.A. (General) to Collector of Chennai.
(vii) Candidates are warned that if the community recorded in the certificate produced by them, even though issued by competent authority is not included in the list of ST / SC / MBC & DNC / BC (Others) / BC (Muslims) or if the community certificate is not issued/signed by the competent authority or if the community certificate is not in the form of the Permanent Community Card. They will not be considered as belong to ST / SC / MBC & DNC /
BC (Others) / BC (Muslims) as the case may be.
They will be considered only as “OTHER COMMUNITIES” and privileges that have been given on the presumption that the candidates belong to ST / SC / MBC & DNC / BC (Others) / BC (Muslims) will be withdrawn.
No correspondence in this connection will be entertained.


Regular Diploma Courses
Selection of eligible candidates for the courses in the
Polytechnic Colleges and Special Institutions will be made based on the total marks secured in the qualifying examination and the ranking will be done in the order of total marks secured by the candidates in the SSLC/ Equivalent examination following communal reservation. In respect of candidates whose maximum marks in the qualifying examination more than 500 as per scheme, the maximum marks shall be reduced to a base of 500 and rank arrived at along with other candidates.

Sandwich Courses
For 50% seats in the Sandwich Diploma Courses the selection will be done based on the total marks secured in the qualifying examination as for the regular courses following merit and communal reservation.
For the remaining 50% seats in the Sandwich Diploma
Courses the eligible candidates sponsored by the approved industries will be admitted.
The list of industries which are participating in the
In plant Training etc., are alone eligible to sponsor candidates.
Sandwich courses will extend for a period for 3 & ½ year (7 semesters). Candidates admitted to sandwich courses will attend the Institution study as well as Inplant Training in one of the connected industries.
These candidates should satisfy the rules relating to eligibility rules prescribed.

1. Fees, Scholarships, Educational Loans, Hostel Facilities etc.
Detailed information can be had from the Principals of the respective Polytechnic Colleges / Special Institutions.
2. The following original certificates should be produced at the time of admission to the Principal.
(a) Conduct certificate and Transfer Certificate are in original from the Head of the Educational Institution in which the candidate had last studied.
(b) SSLC book or equivalent record.
(c) SSLC mark sheet or mark sheet issued by the concerned educational authority for the qualifying examination.
SSLC mark sheet issued by the Head Master of the School, will not be accepted.
(d) Original community certificate for ST / SC /
MBC & DNC / BC (Others) / BC (Muslims) from prescribed authority.

Other Important Points
1. Applications received after the prescribed date and applications which are not in proper form or which are not correctly filled in or not received on or before the due date and applications which do not fulfill the terms of the “Instructions to Candidates” will be considered defective and are liable for rejection.
2. Branch will be allotted according to merit through counseling by the respective principal as per rules of communal reservation.
3. The Register Number should be quoted in all correspondences connected with the application and admission.
4. Do not enclose Original Certificates and enclose
Xerox copy of the Certificates along with the Application.
5. Separate Application for Sponsored Quota should be sent to the Principal of the respective
Polytechnic College (Sl. No. 1, 4, 5 & 11 under the list of Polytechnics Colleges).
6. Applicants should affix required value of stamps on each of the covers enclosed with the Application.
7. Last date for receipt of filled in Application
