Visiting Employers Each year a large number of employers visit the campus to recruit the right candidates.
A Benefit For You: Job Offers Many candidates receive job offers through the on-campus recruitment Program. And the current trend is that candidates have more than one offer in hand before they leave college.
A Benefit For You - Reality Testing If your resume does not get selected for interviews, analyze why. You may need to improve your resume, fix the objective on the resume, or redirect your efforts to a different kind of employer or to job opportunities more suitable to your interests and qualifications at this point in time. This kind of reality testing will greatly improve your independent job search. Your resume is what gets you shortlisted initially. So spend some quality time on it. Sometimes you are rejected because of company policy like the cut-off marks etc.
A Benefit For You - Job Interviewing Skills On-campus recruiting exposes you to the realities of job interviewing and offers you the opportunity to improve your job presentation skills by clarifying your goals and/or selling points. You will also learn the importance of employer research, motivation, professionalism, and closing interviews.
Limitations Not all career interests are represented in on-campus recruitment. Employers in many fields do not use on-campus recruitment as their hiring method. Check out the “Entry-Level Jobs ” section to learn how to get interviews with employers who do not recruit on campus.
What to do to Succeed
Understand your recruiters What they look for in resumes, what they want from candidates during interviews, and more. These pointers apply to almost all employers, not only those who recruit on-campus.
Resume Or Other Documents Have your resume or other document in Microsoft Word, on a disk or on the C drive. Other documents may be a cover note or a transcript copy (unofficial). For best results, documents should be in Microsoft Word.
How Candidates are Selected for Interviews
Resume Review And Selection The employers review the resumes they receive, and select the candidates they believe best match their needs. You are then informed of the employer’s decision and if selected, you must sign up for the selection process.
You Need To Have Some Interest In The Jobs You Apply For A low level of interest may develop into a strong interest. But you should not be taking interviews “for practice” (and in effect denying the interview to a more motivated senior).
You Need To Prepare Professionally For Interviews This means doing your homework on yourself and on the employer. You need to think through your match to the job and your selling points. You must research the employer and figure out what attracts you to that specific employer.
You Need To Dress And Groom Professionally For Interviews
You Must Show Up For An Interview, Or Call The Placement Cell To Cancel In Advance Cancel as far in advance as possible. Last minute cancellations may result in the employer not returning to campus in the future.
You Need To Treat Employers Courteously Shake their hand when you first greet them as well as at the end of the interview. Be sure to also thank them at the end of the interview and send a thank you note.
If You Accept A Job Offer, You Must Stop Taking On-Campus Interviews
