DEFINITION

1. Abnormalities of the nails can be altered by the color, thickness and shape of the spots and likely to affect the hands or feet. The nails may reflect the state of health.

The tips of the nail lesions are the presence of small depressions on the surface of it, which produces weight loss and sometimes the fall of the nail.
Lines may appear to be elevated in any orientation.
Beau's lines are, by contrast, linear depressions that occur sideways in the nail of finger and can occur after an illness, injury of the nail and when the person is malnourished by serious illness or after a great surgery.





2. Leukonychia is when the white dots appear in the nails.





3. The koilonychia is an abnormal form of the nails of the finger where the nail has raised ridges and is thin and concave. It may occur in states of anemia.

Injuries of the nail plate, or the retraction of the skin can give the bed a table to wash the nail.
Frequent exposure to moisture or nail polish can be fragile and peeling of nails.
The fungal infection produces changes in color, texture and shape of nails. If it is a bacterial infection it can cause some pain in the nails and also may result in fall of the nail.





4. The papillomas or warts may cause a change in the shape of the nail or the incarnation of skin underneath.
In some infections, such as heart valves, can cause hemorrhage Subungual linear.

Nails attached to the drum stick fingers are shaped glass bottle or Hippocrates, often occur in chronic lung or heart.





5. Thyroid disease tend to brittle nails and other kidney and liver problems can also change the texture.

In the psoriasis it can cause small cracks, especially in separating the layers of nail plate and nail bed (onycholysis).

Arsenic poisoning may cause white lines and horizontal ridges.

Silver intake can cause bluish coloration of the nail.
