RECKLESS DRIVING THRILLS BUT KILLS

Driving is a pleasure, but reckless driving is a killer. Speed thrills but it kills. But who cares? Today our roads are fast becoming a theater of maddening public behavior with motorists become more and more intolerant and reckless. A number of accidents occur daily and this number is increasing everyday. Most of the drivers of trucks and buses drive under the influence of liquor, especially at night. Car drivers also do not lag behind them in this. It is a jungle raj on the roads and the bigger the vehicle someone has, the more he considers himself to be the rajah of the road. Consequently there is a spurt in accidents, which could have been avoided had the driver been sober. In these accidents hundreds of children die everyday – mothers lose their sons, sisters lose their brothers and wives their husbands. Hundreds of children orphans. But nobody pays attention to this tragic reality. And as for the cops, it is an everyday affair, a routine. The government should act tough in this regard and take effective measures to control reckless driving. Those who drive their vehicles recklessly should be caught and put behind bars. The drivers should be taught the value o human life. They should be made to respect the rules of the road. All vehicles must be periodically checked for their road worthiness.
