After my post doctorate, I took to freelancing as editor in a reputed publishing house in New Delhi. Since my daughter was small, I was glad to express my creativity in freelancing though there were no satisfactory monetary rewards. Editing was always a passion with me.

However, the feedback of my authors prompted me to apply for a full time post of subject editor in Biology advertised in Ascent, Times of India. On my part, I wanted to be fully prepared and brushed off several important details and priceless achievements as well as a bit about the history of the company.

Meanwhile,I got a call and after fifteen days, i appeared for my interview in a comfortable chicken salwar suit that gave a chic professional look and pepped up the watch in one hand and a gold bracelet on the other. Despite all preparations, I had massive butterflies in my stomach and could not eat the sandwiches being offered to the candidates prior to the interview.

When my name was announced, I sent up a small prayer to God and asked him to watch over me lest I fainted. The management people looked so strict and I was very relieved when they offered me a seat. After that, I warmed upto them and was astonishingly answering all the questions related to the ins and outs of editing, my experiences as freelancer in publishing industry and my expectations of the salary package. Overall, I was totally satisfied and emerged smiling. I got a positive call to join the publishing company as subject editor in Biology.
