CAT not Online Examination
|
Hello friends,I think there are many CAT aspirants here in this community. So,for the sake of all of them i`m writing this resource which may help.We all know about the CAT entrance examination is to enter into India's most prestigious institution that is IIMs.Until last year it is just a paper booklet test like many other examinations. But from this academic year it is going to be on computer.So,IIM-A had made a clear notification about this test and cleared all the doubts that students had.IIM-A authorities cleared that CAT will not be online, not computer adaptive. This year Common Admission Test(CAT) will be held during a 10 day window, starting at the end of November 2009.While it will be for the first time that the students will write this exam on computer,CAT will not held online and will not be computer adaptive. It will cost Rs.100 more than last years paper based test.
There were some clarifications provided this week by IIM-Ahmedabad on CAT 2009.There have been widespread speculation over the test since the IIM`s announced that they were making CAT a computer based test.A set of frequently asked Questions(FAQ`s)now posted on the IIM-A website attempts to allay students concern.
Clicking Answers
The IIM authorities make it clear that the popular terminology is wrong- CAT is not an internet based test, but a computer based test. The candidate will not take a test on internet site.Instead of reading questions on question paper booklet and answering on paper sheet now students will do the same thing on computer terminal and click on the correct option.
The CAT will not be computer adaptive either.International examinations like Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Management Admission Test (GMAT) are computer adaptive test, where the computer automatically adapts the test to match the individual candidate aptitude. The scoring system is based on the difficulty level of the questions attempted. However IIM`s had decided not to bring too many changes in the format,so the student still be able to scroll back and forth between questions, attempt them in any order and make corrections during the time of examination. For the rough work and calculations separate booklets are provided and student must leave the booklet there at the desk after completing test. Many were concerned that moving CAT to a computer based format would involve infrastructural investments on the part of the IIMs and make the test more expensive. However, the IIMs have only increased the candidate fee from Rs.1300 last year to Rs.1400 (Rs.700 for SC/ST candidates) vouchers can be brought from designated locations after the advertisements with information about CAT 2009 are published in newspapers near the end of august.
Online Registration
The vouchers will provide the information on ho to register on CAT website. An email account is pre-requisite for all the candidates appearing for the examination since the Admit cards will be sent through email. The card must be printed out and brought to the test venue where photo ids will be checked and biometric information is captured.Candidates will only be allowed to register and take the test only during this 10 day period.this test will be held around 25 cities in the country.CAT 2009 will be declared by the end of January 2010.
All The Best To All CAT Aspirants.
Best Regards, Krish_prince. GOLD Member,ISC.
