I want to share a few things about Kerala Entrance Examination which I have attended last year.

Preparation

Before attending the exam, it is better to join a coaching class since you may not crack the exam with your mere 12th knowledge. From coaching classes, you will learn about some short-cuts and tricks to answer difficult question which is important. If you are not able to attend coaching classes, atleast buy some question banks of good publications. Try to go through all the questions and answer it. Practice will make you perfect. Above all, you should have a thorough knowledge on your 11th and 12th text books.

Syllabus and Subjects

Exam is based on NCERT syllabus. You will get a prospectus when you buy the application form. You can the complete syllabus in it.

Subjects:

Engineering
Paper I - Physics & Chemistry
Paper II- Mathematics

Medical
Paper I - Chemistry & Physics
Paper II- Biology

Timing and mark distribution

You are provided with 150 minutes to answer 120 questions. Each question bears 4 marks and maximum mark is 480. Each correct answer will be awarded with 4 marks while for each wrong answers 1 mark will be deducted from your total marks. If you mark two answers for the same question, it will also considered as incorrect and will deduct one mark. In fact, when your answer become wrong, 5 marks [4 marks + 1 negative] will be lost from your total. So, it is better not to answer the questions which you are not sure.

At the examination hall

You have to occupy your seat 30 minutes before the scheduled start of exam. You will get an OMR answer sheet first. Be careful while filling it since a small fault will disqualify you from the exam. There is a barcode in the OMR sheet. Donot make any scratch in it which is very important. A Candidates' Copy is attached with the OMR sheet. You can take it to your home after exam and can use it to calculate your marks when the answer key get published in the website. After 30 minutes, you will get the question booklet [with 32 pages in my case]. When you get it, ensure that the booklet contains all the 120 questions. If not, report it to the invigilator. Also, you have to ensure that the version codes of Question booklet and OMR answer sheet are the same.

Note: Question papers of Engineering and Medical Entrance Examination 2009 [with answer key] can download from here . A Candidates' copy of OMR sheet is also attached.
