University of North Bengal Admission in P.G. level Faculty of Science


1.For M.Sc.:

Candidates with Hons. degree (10+2+3) system in a subject shall be eligible to apply for admission.

Admission procedure explained below.
2.The total in-take in the Departments are as follows:

Chemistry-45, Mathematics-50, Computer Sc.-10, Botany-25, Anthropology-10
Physics-40, Zoology-25, Bio-technology-10, M.C.A-30.
3. However, if a departmental committee proposes to increase the in-take beyond the above figures it has to be approved by the faculty council.
4. Selection of candidates shall be made according to the following order.

a. 1st class regular Hons. graduates of this University.
b. 1st Class Regular graduates of other universities of West Bengal.
c. 1st Class Regular Honours graduates of any Indian Universities recognised by NBU.
d. Regular Honours graduates of N.B.U.
e. Regular Hons.graduates of other Universities of West Bengal.
10% of the intake in each P.G. department may be filled up by the students of other universities who have secured first class marks in the Hons. examinations . The panel of such students will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the special admission test to be conducted for these students only by the respective P.G. Depts.
5.Candidates holding degrees from foreign universities would be considered eligible into the post-graduate courses provided, (a) they obtain honours or equivalent degree from a recognized foreign university or (b) they obtain B.A. degree having offered in that particular subject as major one from a recognised foreign university.
6.Normally overlapping of academic session may not be permitted in deciding admission . However, when a case of admission of students from foreign universities is related to the implementation of Bilateral Academic Exchange Programme of the Govt. of India with foreign countries, the candidate and the concerned government would be informed of the difficulties likely to be faced by the candidate under such circumstances and the Vice-Chancellor would be requested to give a decision.
7.Physically handicapped candidates will be considered specially if they are otherwise eligible . Such candidates have to submit the medical certificate. An internal screening of these candidates will be made . Ten percent of the marks obtained will be added to his\her total marks. 28% Seats (22% SC and 6% ST) shall be kept reserved for SC and ST students. The following procedures are followed.
a. Applications in the general category will be arranged in order of merit including the students of SC/ST category , if any.
b. The applications of SC and ST candidates will be arranged in order of merit and be selected for admission according to the quota of 22% and 6% respectively.
c. If the ST candidates fall short of the reserved quota , the vacancies will be filled up by the SC candidates. If the SC candidates fall short of the quota the vacancies will be filled up by the candidates of general category, subject to de-reservation by the District Commissioner for Reservation..
d. No candidates in SC/ST category will be selected for admission who has obtained marks lower than 25% of marks secured by the last candidate of the general category in the qualifying examination.
e. No SC/ST candidate of other universities will be considered to fill up the quota.
Students from Bhutan , if otherwise eligible, may be specially considered and for such purpose one seat each in the subjects would be kept reserved.
Candidates who have failed to secure qualifying marks in the P.G. Part-I examination of this university in the previous year may be considered for re-admission subject to the availability of Seat and approval by the Faculty Council.
For P.G. Diploma courses, admission are based on admission test and oral interview.
For M.Phil. Course in RS&GIS, admission is based on merit only. Eligibility prescribed in the Regulations
