I think 90% or maybe more people are acquainted with this thing. The topic itself says. Pollution. Yes, the word pollution is very easy to write articles, essays and make speeches on. Maybe I am also doing the same but I don't have any proof to say that I do some practical things to fix it too, so I won't like to boast about myself. The readers may consider it just as an essay. But I would appreciate this resource a resource only if readers get motivated after reading it.

Today pollution is such a thing which can't be ignored even in the dreams, better call them nightmares. Pollution is destroying everything of our necessity. And why should it not do so? It will destroy even the existence of life if not controlled within time. We do everything to clean our houses, what not, we buy vacuum cleaners, we wash the floors with the best cleaning fluid, we can build. If its so, then ain't this earth our own earth, ain't these trees our companions.

Pollution is a very big topic. Covering everything will take me a long time and readers will end with a headache reading it all. In this particular topic, I would like to concentrate on the topic of plastic.

As far as the invention of plastic is concerned, I am sure that the cause of it was to create such a thing which will retain its shape even after all problems facing and create a substance with unlimited durability. But see, as said, excess of everything is bad.

These plastics are sold at the price of 50 paise, even not sometimes that. Much of the times it comes for free. The vendors sell it like anything. For everything that a customer buys, most of the vendors offer plastic bags. It all looks so dramatic to me. Vendors are only concerned about the sales, they are not bothering about anything.

Science is developing today so fast that its nature is becoming devastating. It seems to be overbearing. It looks as if tries to overpower the nature. It is same like a lumberer. A lumberer can see only one thing in a tree - wood. He forgets other uses of trees like bringing rain, holding the soil tightly, producing oxygen and its medicinal features. Without considering all this, the carpenter cuts the helpless tree down. Science is today doing something like this. Invention after invention, science is causing so much inconvenience to nature that she has become to hate us. It seems like life is not going to exist for long.

Such an invention was plastic. When it was invented, it was considered a big achievement, but this achievement has become big time problem today. Lets talk about the curses.

From plastic pens, to Compact Discs, to Plastic mugs to plastic gallons and to plastic humanity, everything has become poisonous. Let me talk somethings in points.

1. Plastic is non-biodegradable. Though there are biodegradable plastics too, but they are not much popular, so on the whole we can say that plastic is non-biodegradable. Even if they are disposed in soil for thousands of years plastic does not rot.

2. We can't burn plastic. Burning plastics leads to the generation of such poisonous fumes, which on concentration can kill lives within minutes.

3. It does not get wet. So, we can't even expect it to die out of reaction of water.

4. It is the most durable material today. Sometimes some plastics don't break even, does not matter how much you try.

5. It is so cheap that people don't even think about it even for a second, they just take it as normal. Plastic has gone to the reflexes of people

6. Plastic kills so many animals annually, that we cannot even estimate. It gets into their alimentary canal and then the organs find it uneasy and the animals tend to breathe their last.

So, by now, I think people the readers, would have "revised" the fact that till date, there is no existence of any way which can "kill" plastic. Therefore the problem is that the volume it covers can't be reduced. It can't be just finished off. Hence we cannot dispose it well.

Till plastic is in our hands, it looks beautiful, but when thrown off, it adds to littering. Whenever we see littering of plastics, especially in India, we tend to abuse the government. We say that the politicians have become corrupt. It may be possible that the politicians have become corrupt but will they come to pick the rags? We tend to abuse the municipality that it does not clean our places. Why? Doesn't municipality provide big dump bins to dispose the waste materials there. What happens as a result? Either the bins are sold in market, in order to produce money out of the iron or it may corrode after years, but people don't use it.

I think that the time has come in which we can say that "Do or die". I know definitely that hearing this, many would say that we don't fear death. But may they don't fear but others fear it.

Let me tell you an incident I saw.

I love having chowmin as some refreshment, and usually on Sundays (in those days) my mommy used to cook it. It was evening time. In the nearby chowk, I went to the vendor with my cloth bag to buy some vegetables like cabbage, carrot and some more of daily use. In the shop, there came an adult man. He went asking prices for many vegetables. He asked for what not. He bought many of them. The vendor went on keeping his vegetables in a basket which he used to use to take vegetable and then keep them for one customer and he used to use that basket to put the vegetables in the bags or whatever containers customers brought.

That man, had nothing. He didn't have a cloth bag. He was having a Pulsar 220 with a big carrier, but you know what he did. Despite of having such a big carrier, he asked for plastic bags and to carry so many vegetables that he had purchased, he took 3 plastic bags, big ones.

What will you say? Couldn't that man use his own bike carrier than becoming a part of pollution. What would have that man done with the bags, thrown them? People are not concerned about the environment they are using and living in. They think that they own them. We may own the plot of land we have payed for, but we don't own the soil that we are polluting.

This is the reason for why i prefer buying cargoes. They look cool to me, and when have to carry small things like a pack of biscuits, I can use them. I know that the readers may think that I am boasting, and think that I am writing all this nonsense just in order to make money out of ISC but I swear I do this.

I think that just simply blaming the government, the municipality, your neighbors won't work. What if we go to a field and begin to plant a tree in front of everyone or begin to clean the road or streets in which we live? We won't do this just because we have that fear in our minds that people will laugh on us. We consider these jobs as dirty jobs. If these are dirty then what is that washing of our soft back portions daily in the latrines? Is cleaning a road, even dirtier than that. But we do it. Why? Just because we have our own interest in doing so.I promise and I make a bet, that doing so won't decrease our status. We make such big fights in the name of almighty, so why not just keep his name in our hearts and help to keep the environment clean.

People keep asking that what can we do to stop or decrease the use of plastics. Well there are several ways. The three 'R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle can help us. Further, in particular concern to reduce the usage to plastics let me tell you something.

When I was in Standard V, a new subject called Environmental Science was started. It did not count much because most of the times it did not include marking and its presence in the report card. When I was in Class VIII last year, I told my EVS (Environmental Science) teacher -

"Sir, how is just reading the book and writing the exams going to help us save the environment"

"What do you want then?", he asked.

"I was thinking to do something practical.", I replied.

"Like...?" He interrogated.

"We can make paper bags out of old newspapers, sir. If you can announce in the classes that this time for EVS, we will have to make paper bags, then the students may make them. Even if one student makes ten, we can have more than thousands at our account. Then you may appoint any student as such to distribute those paper bags to vendors, so that they can use them to sell the daily use items such as pulses, sugar, etc. That would be a step to reduce the plastics", I replied.

He agreed and i was very happy that day. At last I would like to conclude saying this -

"I won't discuss more about how to save the environment from plastics. Stand up, take a deep breath, and ask yourself what it is, you will get the answer and those sacred ways to save it, you will get an inner peace, and when you do it practically, you will experience the almighty inside yourself, if you are not an atheist."

Thank you for being patient and reading such a long post. Thanks a lot.
