Tips for Credit Card Users
If you are a credit card holder and use it often, then the following tips will be handy for you in times.
01. Like your house keys, never keep your cards in unknown places or locations. Keep them in safe place where easily you can access them.
02. Sometimes people write down the Card PIN on the card which will be fatal if it is lost or stolen. So, never write them on the card, it is better to memorize by yourself.
03. While creating a PIN don't use numbers which others can guess easily like DOB, Anniversary date, vehicle No or mobile number etc. Create a custom PIN which is difficult to guess.
04. People normally dispose the credit card slip after the transactions. Don't dispose them in public places as the slips contains various information regarding your card & transactions. It is better to tear them into peaces to dispose in your household area.
05. Don't provide credit card numbers to any Telemarketing or unknown Callers. Even be careful while using it in a restaurants. Be sure the transaction is carried out in front you only.
06. Check for SSL certificate or Logo in a site before carrying out any online transactions. Sometimes malicious sites just put the logo or symbol to divert the attention. Simply click on the logo and check for the certificate validity in such cases. You should open such sites using https mode only. A secure site display a lock symbol near address bar or at the bottom of the browser.
07. Any bank or Business organization will never ask for the account number, password or any other card related information through the mail. If you receiving such mail avoid such mail and never click on the links mentioned in it.
08. Don't carry out any commercial transaction in any Public Computer, Cybercafe or unknown places. Those systems may contain programs like key loggers to record your activities. It is safe to carry out such operations in your system only.
09. Recently, for extra security measure for online transactions all the Credit Card companies have introduced another level of security step like "Verified by Visa" & "MasterCard Securecode". Visit to the credit card website and register for it before any online transactions.
10. Always sign on the transactions slips and check with your monthly statement for verification. For any suspicious activity on your billing, contact immediately to customer care and inform about the irregularities.
11. Subscribe to the Online Statement which is safe & secure than the paper statement. Destroy paper statements safely once your payment is over.
12. Always pay your total amount dues (not the minimum amount) 2/3 days prior to your pay by date. Try to avoid withdrawing cash through credit card which will attract more interest.
13. If your are not using a card for longer period, it is better to Cancel such inactive credit accounts. Cut the cards diagonally along the magnet strips ensuring it can not used further. Call to the credit card department and ask for closure procedure.
14. Always keep Credit card help line number, card information with you when you are traveling. If the card is lost or stolen, immediately contact help line and block the access of the card.
15. Some companies are also providing Credit card insurance with very low premium to cover the misuse of the card before reporting. Check for them if you like.
