-- An earthquake hit Indonesian island of Sumatra on the 1st Oct leaving around 1000 dead.
-- Typhoon Ketsana which vent its fury on Philippines last week continued to do so in South East Asia on 29th Sept leaving behind a trail of destruction of property and loss of life.
-- Closer home in India , unprecedented rains on the 1st/2nd of October have resulted in the worst ever floods in AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra causing hundreds of deaths and loss of property . A typical case of poverty in the midst of plenty -- some areas in India are reeling from drought.
