Chasing dreams, ambition, career, fast-paced life, no time for self, family or friends on the personal front, goals, targets, manipulations, incentives, recognition, celebrations on the corporate front. With this as a backdrop, everyone talks about health, work-life balance but no one really walks the talk.

One scare of a killer flue, loved ones falling sick and the world changes. Suddenly, targets don’t matter anymore, no one cares a damn if the materialistic is lost and it is now OK to stay away from work. The corporate world has suddenly become less demanding and more understanding. But one question, why this sudden shift in paradigm? The answer, because life is at stake.

There have been other threats like terrorism, natural calamities, health issues and so on, but this time it is a brand new infection which has the potential to kill. Although most of the affected will recover fully, there is still a scare because of unavailability of a vaccine. That may be bad news on the one hand but on the other, the current times have presented the real beauty of people.

Parents, spouses, children and others who were too busy are now finding time, taking care, expressing love or just being there for each other. Corporates who could not stop chasing numbers have become far more understanding and accommodating than ever before. Suddenly, health is the buzz word, everyone wants to maintain hygiene, eat healthy food, drink lots of water, exercise to keep fit and develop a good immune system.

Thanks to the scare, the last couple of months have made us come to terms with the reality that life is unpredictable. We have come into this world for a purpose which is not only about making money.

A life is complete and fulfilling only when balanced on all 4 quadrants, of health, family, work and spirituality. The magic is created when the quadrants work in the same order of priority. However, when priorities change, it creates an imbalance in life and gives rise to unhappiness and sorrow.

Therefore it is suggested that one should take cue from the current circumstances and bring about some corrections in ones lives. Let us resolve to spend time on recreation and physical activities, let’s take time out to go for holiday, let’s find time to read, let’s find time to give back, let’s find time for our loved ones, let’s find time to reflect and also let’s find time to do nothing.

Let’s us change for the better and let the change be permanent. Discover the real meaning of life and live life that way. Do it before it’s too late. Remember, there is enough in the world for everyone’s need, but not for everyone’s greed.

Even as you begin to come to terms with this simple philosophy of life first, let me assure you that your productivity at the work place will only increase when you are complete with yourself and your family.

You cannot be happy at work if you are not happy at home.
