Father of Green Revolution died due to cancer

The father of green revolution and Nobel peace awardees’ "Norman Borlaug" is dead. He was like Annadaata for India. Before his achievement to produce the dwarf variety of wheat, India was dependent on exporting wheat from US.

In 1960s,' he successfully invented the gene to produce dwarf wheat for giving high grain yield and resistance to the disease. Later this dwarf variety distributed all over world for testing and multiplying and it was adapted well. Prof M. S. Swaminathan exported tonnes of this dwarf wheat to India. He succeeds to produce the other dwarf varieties with crossing the local varieties. This new variety was successfully performed in the field. From this new varieties the many new varieties also produced by genetic for fulfilling the need of the location specific criteria.

After that, India as well as whole world produced sufficient food grain including rice and other grains to feed over 6 billion people.

For this contribution, Dr Borlaug was awarded Nobel Prize in 1970. He was a great humanitarian and saved billion lives from hunger.

Norman Borlaug was the only Agriculturist who grab the prestigious Noble prize. The Agriculture scientist are making all efforts to save this planet from the global warming and simulteneously creating a way to increase production to feed billion people.
