How to Handle Your Accident Claim With Your Insurance Company


Car accidents are on recent rise these days. Importance of having your car insured has become important therefore. Unfortunately, if you face car accident, next step would be to settle your claims with insurance company. It is very important to have knowledge on how to settle your claim and work with your insurance company in that direction.

Having knowledge of how to settle your claims helps you convince insurance company that your claim is genuine one and legit. Your insurance agent is one who would act as mediator between yourself and your insurance company. So you should try to maintain good relationship with your insurance agent so that he will be there to address your concerns! In case you are not getting good feedback from your company, your insurance agent would one who would step and plead your case.

Your business is important to insurance agents as they work on commission basis. If you regularly renew your insurance policies and make payments on time, agent would readily help you resolve claim. This is under assumption that your claim is genuine and legit.

Insurance agents may not be able to always help you due to their busy schedules. In this case find out from claims department contact details of person responsible. Find out from that person reason why claim is on hold. Ask reasons for claim not settled so that further you can discuss any facts that are incorrect. Sometimes just discussing straight with correct responsible person from insurance company helps to settle claim quickly.

Insurance companies have various divisions like claim department, customer complaint department, etc to improve responses to customer. If you are not getting positive response from first point of contact for your insurance claim, move up to his supervisor. Still if you don’t get cooperation, ask for customer complaint or go to fulfillment department.

When you are communicating with insurance company regarding your claim on the phone, have all your documents ready before you. Also when you are meeting them regarding your claim, come prepared with your facts ready. Thoroughly study facts yourselves so that it will be easy for you to convince them.

If you cannot delivery your required documents physically to insurance company, check other options for delivering documents. Fax would be best option as most of departments use them for clerical purposes. You can scan the documents and mail them. Or else if you want proof for sending those documents, mail from post office would be best option.

If after receiving the documentation the insurance company still has some dispute regarding your insurance claim there are still more steps you can take. One of the best things to do is to call your local or state’s insurance department. The people working at the department have good knowledge and you can use it for your claim.

You can ask department of insurance certain questions you have or difficulties you are facing. You might discover that you are not taking correct steps or not having full information ready with you. On the other hand they might be able to tell you the exact steps or words to say to your insurance company to get the claim accepted.

If you come to know that some steps needs to be changed from your insurance department, take contact information of person who guided you for same. If insurance company is still reluctant to settle claim, you can ask them to call above person to confirm information received from insurance department.
Even after getting help from insurance agent, convincing department yourself, lodging customer complaint, taking advise of department of insurance, your claim stands unsettled, then you can hire lawyer. Lawyer preferably with insurance law background would be of great help. Only constraint is extra cost involved here. But if your claim is genuine and there is big amount involved, you can very well avail this option.

Meeting with an accident involves physical and emotional damage as well. So wish that you get insurance company which will help settle your claim. It is small process.
Just contact any agent they will explain to you.
Because there are some formaliies to report in Police station and took the photographs etc.

So it is better to proceed with a agent.
