An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials and plugins. Popularly known as the mini-Photoshop, many who just want to do simple but yet good image editing, well they need not look further than this software. In fact, some people became such a huge fan of this that they left their Photoshop installations to use Paint.NET and work on it.
People who have mastered the default Paint bundled with Windows shouldn't have any problem in using Paint.NET. Most of the standard tools are the same including selection, lasso and shape tools. The ones which are new is the clone stamp tool and a huge amount of image effects in the Effects menu.

Paint.NET also supports a wide variety of add-ons designed to make this a much more complete image editor which is free. The add-ons are created by individual developers and help in the growth of Paint.NET community. The software has won quite a lot of awards and innumerable amount of mentions in various place, both on the net and off the net. I have myself made quite a huge amount of creations and one of them is below.
The image has been made after using the lasso tool and selecting the individual image and then cutting it and pasting it as a new image
Some of my other creations include one for my friend which has been inspired by quite a lot of themes.
Inspired by many themes - created as a cover for St. Xaviers College's B.B.A. Departmental Magazine
There's even my movie collection if you wanna see it wholly made by Paint.NET.

And if you are wondering those icons came from, I created them in Paint.NET like the sample below.
