Advertisement is the business of communication a message to an audience through the media – newspapers, magazine, radio, television, hoardings in public places. Growing consumer awareness, materialistic trends and literacy have brought to the forefront this comparatively young profession.

Personality Traits : A sensitive nature, curious bent of mind, wide ranging interests, interest in working with people, clarity in thinking, unmoved by criticism, perseverance and enthusiasm, keen sense of humour, hard working stress tolerant, work against deadlines even against odds, creative talents, communication skills.


Departments in Advt. Agencies: client servicing, creative, R & D, media, co-ordination and production are major departments in an Advt. Agency.


1) Creative department: an individual can either begin as junior visualizer or as a junior copywriter in the art and copy departments resp. the creative departments is in constant touch with the client servicing executives. Instructions flow from them to copywriters and visualisers.


2) Client servicing departments: Account executive is involved from the briefing and the concept of the advertisement to placement of the ads.


3) Media department: media executive evaluate the best possible media in which the advertisements could target its audience. They are involved in buying the best possible slots for their ad campaign and negotiating the best financial deals with an analytical approach.


4) Market Research: Good research is what makes a campaign successful. Researches first find out what the consumer really needs, the craze, the trends etc. they are generally expert in statistics and good behavioral scientists.


5) Production Department: This department produces the advertisements; production people are qualified in printing, typography, photography and other technical processes and materials. Television production is a rapidly expanding field. Agencies usually depend on pros, costumes, models and scenery themselves.


Job Opportunities: Private – Public sector advertising departments, advertising agencies, newspapers, journals, magazines, commercial sections of radio T.V., market research organizations, private firms, private industries.
