IGNOU to coach teachers for disabled kids

New Delhi, Sep 20: Indira Gandhi National Open University has begun admissions for its flagship course for in-service teachers on the Education for Disabled Children.

The university's National Centre for Disability Studies will conduct the course in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

The three-month course will be offered through distance learning and online modes at Rs 1,500. The admission form can be also be downloaded from the IGNOU Website www.ignou.ac.in.

According to census figures, disabled persons constitute about 2 per cent of the total population in the country. There is an urgent need for about 7 lakh teachers for disabled children in elementary schools across the country.
