Saint Louis University International College of Medicine (SLUICM), Philippines has invited applications for its prestigious Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program, equivalent to MBBS degree offered by the Indian Universities.
SLUICM, the first medical college in Philippines targeting Indian students, is a joint venture of the Saint Louis University, one of the largest International universities of the globe managed by CICM Congregation and Sudhir Gopi Holding Inc, a pioneer higher education services provider with significant presence in the UAE, British West Indies and India.
SLUICM is located inside the six-hectare campus of Saint Louis University in the picturesque hillocks of Baguio City, an international tourists’ destination 250 kilometers north of Manila, the capital city of Philippines.
Eligibility for Admission
International students would be selected as per the eligibility criteria of the Saint Louis University for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program from the academic year commencing from October 2007. Student registration, Curriculum and Syllabus, Examination, Evaluation and Certification would be conducted by the Saint Louis University directly. Last date for submitting applications: 30 Sept. 2007.
Criteria for admission for the Doctor of Medicine program follows:
· Plus two or equivalent or Pre-University qualification from a recognized Board/University with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany & Zoology with minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
· Pass in ‘A’ Level examination with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany & Zoology.
· B. Sc graduates with science as major subject.
Students with plus two or equivalent qualifications will have to complete a 1 year 4 month pre med education which is equivalent to Bachelor of Science, along with the M.D. program. Students who intend to practice medicine in India should obtain eligibility certificate from the Medical Council of India before getting admitted for the program. Students can obtain applications and register themselves either through the Office of Saint Louis University International College of Medicine, Philippines or from the information centres of the College functioning in Dubai, UAE and New Delhi, Hyderabad and Cochin, India.
Recognition
The Doctor of Medicine degree awarded by the Saint Louis University is recognized world wide, which enables the students to appear for the licensing exams, including USMLE, PLAB and MCI Screening Test, subject to the local laws of the respective country. Saint Louis University is listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools and Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). It is also recognized by Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) and is a member of various National and International associations. The Degree awarded by the University is recognized by Commission on Higher Education, Philippines (CHED).
SLUICM is equipped with state-of the-art facilities including an exhaustive Library and other modern communication and training infrastructure. Teaching hospitals of the collage, Hospital of the Sacred Heart inside the University Campus and Baguio General Hospital and Medical Centre, 250 and 500 bedded ultra- modern medical facilities will provide the students excellent clinical training opportunities. The College also has modern independent hostels for male and female students, served with Indian and continental cuisine.
The administration of the Saint Louis University International College of Medicine and its student hostels are being looked after by the Congregation of Apostolic Carmel, one among the pioneers in women’s education in India. Founded in 1868, Apostolic Carmelites’ Karnataka Province alone has over 60 educational institutions under its management.
One of the biggest attractions of this international medical college following US curriculum for medical education is the cost factor. Tuition fee for the M.D. program is around Rs. 15 lac, much lesser than what it costs for medical education in India.
