Respect nature
|

Nature is our mother. It feeds us, teaches her how to survive, helps us survive by providing us the tools necessary for survival and showers her blessings on us in the form or rain. It created us. It evolved so as to help us evolve. We were apes before. We are apes now. But theres a huge difference. As time went by, our body evolved. This wouldn't have been possible without the nature changing itself too. We adapted to it and it adapted to us and the process was interdependent. What we fail to realize though is Nature loves other living beings in the same way as it loves humans. As i said earlier, Nature is our mother. A mother loves all her children equally. In the same way, Nature loves all living beings. It doesn't differentiate between any of them. It doesn't do anything extra for one particular species. Whatever we get from nature they get it too. It tries to be equal to everyone. After-all love is simply love; it does not take a greater or lesser form.
But Man; Man is simply greedy. Man wants everything for himself. Over the years we have cut down trees, spread harmful gases through the environment, used our resources inefficiently, overused the resources and hurt other species in the process, just for the sake of our greed. More and more area from the forests is being cut down to accommodate the ever increasing population. More and more harmful gases are let out in the atmosphere. The gases disturb the proportion of various other vital gases and can be very dangerous. They have been responsible for the depletion of oxygen and also for the hole in the ozone layer. Also, the waste materials from factories are thrown into the rivers. These remains pollute the water and can kill the animals drinking the water.
Killing other species indirectly is one thing, but we kill animals purposely. Last night i saw a video about the anti-fur policies adopted be PETA(People for the ethical treatment of animals). It showed exactly how the fur is extracted from animals in china. What they do is they breed the animals(namely raccoons and wolfs) till their fur becomes good enough for selling. Then they take them out of their cages, break their neck bones so that they become paralyzed but are still conscious, and are skinned alive. Many of them die in the process. But some of them are alive even after the skinning. You can literally see tears in their eyes. Its the most horrible and gruesome sight. But many people still buy those furs. When the newspaper editors in china came to know about this horrendous act, they were so shocked that they released the video on TV and wrote about it in their newspapers in spite of the Chinese ban on news reports and television documentaries that portray the Chinese industry in a wrong way. While other countries have banned fur extraction, in China its a legal industry. In fact China has become the number one producer of fur in the world. This is only because people buy such stuff in spite of having ample knowledge about the suffering the animals have to go through. In the same way, other animals such as Tigers, elephants, bears have to undergo the same treatment for their fur and ivory. Tigers and elephants are soon becoming extinct due to this.
It is understood that life is the fight for survival. And for survival, the big fish has to consume the small fish. That is the rule of life. Millions of people in the world consume non vegetarian food everyday. Heck, even plants are alive. So somewhere, we are all non vegetarians. But we should refrain from killing where killing is not required. Food is the basic necessity of man. But killing for the sake of fashion and sport is not ethical in any way you look at it. Making animals suffer for our amusement by making them fight each other is not ethical. Killing animals in the name of GOD is not ethical. Whats ethical is only when we NEED it, not when we WANT it. But we may never understand the difference.
And this will finally lead to our doom. What goes around, comes around. We are just digging our own grave. Cutting all these trees will only lead to global warming and lack of rains. Already the Himalayas are melting at a rate faster than ever. It is said that if the ice in the Himalayas melts completely, then the whole planet will be drowned under water. And its happening; the way we are handling the situation; its unavoidable. Killing animals at this rate, and in this manner will disturb the balance of nature. Everything in this world is interdependent. If one part of Nature goes down, it will invariably affect the other parts too. People all around the world have been criticizing PETA for ages now for being too over-exaggerative. And to some extent, even i agree. Their methods and ideologies do go out of bounds most of the time. But on many critical matters such as the ones i talked about, they have always been right and have been crying out for ages begging people to stop the merciless killing. But no-one listens.
But, as they say, its never too late. Everything is not lost. We can start again; from scratch. The key is to understand the impact of every decision we take on this world. A civilization has to expand. But expand vertically instead of horizontally. Refrain from cutting as many trees as possible. And more importantly plant as many trees as possible. Just one tree in your surroundings can make a difference. Stop throwing garbage into the waters. Recycle instead. Or, if recycling is not possible, decompose the waste and use it as manure for plants. Keep the waters clean. Companies need to take some measures to avoid letting the harmful gases into the atmosphere. Many companies use filters which filter the gases to keep the pollution and damage they cause to a minimal. Sure it will add up on their total expenditure, but whats the use of profit if it is harmful to the very surroundings that lets you breathe and stay alive? Save the environment, and in the process, also save your soul from guilt. Poachers wont stop killing animals. They have sold their hearts a long time back. But we can force them to stop by running them bankrupt. Refrain from buying items made out of fur and ivory. Whats style if it comes at a cost of somebody's life? Put yourself in the shoes of those animals and just imagine how you would feel if you were subject to such cruel treatment. Hit these people where it hurts them the most, their pockets. Maybe, then they will stop.
Just remember that you probably wont be able to save a million lives, but you can at least save one. And saving one life is the same as saving a million. Because you will be helping someone survive. So try, as little as you may, and as much as you can, to make even a little difference to save this world and stop hurting nature. And maybe everything will get by, just as someone up there intended it to go.
