Joint BE/BS/MS Programme Offered By DDU and University of Iowa (UI)
DDU-UI JOINT BS/MS PROGRAM
The 5-year DDU-UI Joint BS/MS degree program is designed for qualified DDU students to pursue studies leading to the BE (BS) degree from DDU and simultaneously the MS degree from UI.? Students in this program are expected to successfully complete the normal requirements of the MS degree at UI and those of the BE degree at DDU. This program meets the established UI guidelines for Bachelor?s/Master?s Joint Programs.
This program is open to DDU students wishing to pursue the joint degree in one of the established BS/MS program at UI (and new ones as and when they are added).? The students shall complete the first 3 years (semesters 1 to 6) of their study at DDU and transfer to UI for the following 2 years (semester 7 to 10).? DDU and UI shall simultaneously confer their respective degrees upon successful completion of the 5-year course of study. Students enrolled in this program are encouraged to return to India in order to pursue industrial enhancement in their area of study.?
The students shall complete semesters 1 through 6 of study at DDU for a rigorous foundation in basic sciences, mathematics, and engineering fundamentals, and courses that may be specified by the particular UI engineering program and seek admission to the Joint BS/MS program at the beginning of semester 6.
The student will complete all UI Graduate College requirements for the MS degree by the end of the four semesters in residence in consultation with the Graduate Program Director of the respective program.
Prospective Students
1. The student must submit TOEFL score at the time of application.
2. Must have GPA of 3.0 and above
3. Student will have to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP), i.e. a write up as to why he/she wants to take the MS program.
4. Recommendation letters from three faculty members.
5. The student must take the GRE examination by the end of the first semester at UI.
6. The student will have to pay tuition fees and the details of the same is available on http://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/ Cost of leaving and financial aid is available from http://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/future-students/grad-programs.html#cost and http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/graduate/costs/engineering.html.
7. The financial aid will depend on student?s performance and availability of fund with each department. If the students perform well then almost all such students get TA or RA and then their tuition fees reduces to about $3000 - 6000 only. Excellent students may get assistance from 2nd semester, but mostly they should be prepared for support themselves for about one year.
8. As such the date for applying is by March for Fall Semester (starting from 21st August) but for us UI will relax at least this time and if the students already have TOEFL score they may down load application for joint BS/MS program which is available on their web site http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/graduate/costs/engineering.html
9. The interested student should go thoroughly through the web site of UI and get detailed information.
10. As on today UI already have joint BS/MS program in: Biomedical Engineering, Civil & Env. Engg, Industrial Engg, and Mechanical Engg and have proposed to start in Chem & Biochem Engg from Aug 2007. Proposal for starting it in Electrical & Computer Engg from next year is there. They have so much flexibility that student from any branch can apply for any other branch in UI.
