Interviewing Applicants for Any Position

1. The Steps to take to get ready for the Interview.
a. Review all applications, screening them to make a selection of the people you will actually interview.
b. Read application from the applicant.
c. Review the checklist of questions you plan to ask and be sure
that they are all relevant to this selection process.
d. Review the job description to make sure it is up to date before you lock into giving information about the position that may not be relevant anymore.
2. What to look for during the interview
a. How well does the applicant express himself or herself?
b. Eye Contact
c. Non verbal behavior
d. Interest in the position
e. Prior experience
3. The information to be given to the applicant
a. No false promises or unrealistic commitments.
b. All pertinent information about the job and this facility should be given to the applicant
4. The measures to follow to leave the applicant with a good impression of this department and the facility
a. Set a time to begin the interview and stick to it.
b. Plan enough time so that there is no need to rush through the process.
c. Find a private environment free from interruptions to conduct the interview.
d. Be upbeat about your organization
e. Try to get the applicant to relax. Act as though this were a relaxed and easy conversation in your living room.
f. The applicant should leave the interview feeling certain of the duties and requirements of the job
g. Leave the applicant with a positive impression of this organization. Even if it is decided not to hire the applicant, it’s likely that he/she is a member of the community and your actions could have a public relations impact.
h. Regardless of the outcome of the interview, let the interviewee know how you feel – whether or not you’ll be conducting more interviews and at least give a time frame about when a final decision will be made about this position.
i. End on a positive note
