BHITARKANIKA


More and less traveller visited sundarban, now lets go to the second Sundarban in our country. It is Bhitarkanika. At the side of the Bay of bengal the forest Bhitarkanika is looked like same as sundarban. Although it is a big forest but should not found any tiger here. But there are many crocodiles in water. 625 sqkm areas are covered with Baitarani, brahmani and Dhamra rivers.

To reach Bhitarkanika, Dhouli express from Howrah is best. By train it is only 4.30 hrs journey, get down in Bhadrak station. From Bhadrak the main gateway
of Bhitorkanika is Chandbali. Here trekker is available but if you have a heavy group then take a car for rental. you may get a car with in Rs.700 to 800
with negociation. If you take night journey then you will enjoy the full day. In that case you have no need to stay at chandbali. There are many buses between kolkata and Chandabali, which cover the whole distance in 14 hours.

To see the wildlife sanctuary you first packed your launch and drinking water and then go by boat which have valid lisence in the river Baitaranika. obtain an entry permit before entering to the National Park On your tour to Bhitar Kanika. The chief attractions from the animal world are the world famous Olive Ridly Sea Turtles. You will see all things with Fear and romance, and in such way you will reach at Dangmal or Ekakula or Haveli kothi. Dangmal is the most prominent one that you can visit on your tour to Bhitarkanika for its population of salt-water crocodiles. you'll also get to see the 170 species of birds including the eight magnificent subspecies of Kingfisher, Open billed Storks, Sea Eagles, Kites, Sand Pipers, Darters, Whistling Teals and Sea Gulls especially at the Baga Gahana and Saribana in Bhitar Kanika Wildlife Sanctuary. From here 3km distance Gahir mata sea beach. Olive Ridley Sea Turtles from Atlantic come to nest at Gahirmatha sea beach. After finish your water-jungle tour, back to chandbali and you may visit the Kanika kings house and may also visit the Lord Shiva Temple.

Where To Stay :

If you want to stay chandbali you may stay Orissa Tourism forest bunglow. The room fare is Rs 500-850. Dormitary per bed is Rs150. for booking you may contact at utkal bhaban in kolkata or chandbali. If you want to stay in forest a number of overnight halting places are available at different locations of
Bhitarkanika National Park. The facilities in these staying places are very modest. Illumination is provided by solar lights.

Four Forest Rest House
Five Double Bed Room.
One Triple Bed Round Cabin.
Two Four Bed Room.
One Twelve Bed Dormitory.

Ekakula (On Sea beach,Close to Gahirmatha):-

Two Forest Rest Houses and four Tents are available.
