Light Pen :-
Light Pen is a pointing device which can be connected by a cable to a display. It is pen like device and using it the drawing and image manipulation is more easy as compared to mouse or other pointing devices. By moving the pen on a screen the user can cause a set of lines to move with it and be repositioned as required.
The Light Pen consists of a photo diode or photo transistor , which works as a Light sensing element , and a pen like holder. The Light sensing element is attached to one end of the pen like holder and the other end of it is attached with a cable which is used to transmit the signals.
For using the light pen we need special type of screens. It can be a wire grid screen or a metallic coated screen. The screen user LCD. The pen tip is positioned to desired location of the screen by holding it with hand. The screen in in touched with the tip of the pen when the pen is depressed , it is activated and a signal is sent to the system indicating the position. As the pen is moved on the screen the positions of graphic display are identified by the computer. Some times double wheels are also used to move the cursor in place of light pen.
Joystick :-
Joystick is a PC entertainment device. It is one of the simplest peripheral available for a PC. It allows the user to bring an element of hand eye coordination to interactive programs which is not possible with a keyboard , mouse or other devices. It is connected to the computer through game port adapter. Virtually on all PC's , the port 201h is reserved for the game port.
Joystick is an analog device and uses two potentiometers arranged perpendicularly to moves left or right. One potentiometers moves and when the stick moves up or down the other potentiometers moves. The stick is mounted on a spherical ball which moves in a socket. It is an extended version of the stick used in video games. The movement of stick is sensed by the potentiometers. Using the stick the cursor can be moved rapidly to any desired position. A cursor is a small cross or a bright rectangle on the screen.
