Self-Help “Put the shoulder to the wheel and the cart will move” – said Hercules to the poor carter whose wheels had got stuck in mud and didn’t move. The man obeyed and the Cart moved and he learnt the lesson once for all –“God help those who help themselves”. Indeed it is true that man is the architect of his own fate. If he has confidence in him and works without depending on others, there will be no obstacles in his way. His effort will then be crowned with success. Self-Help is Self-Reliance. It is the essence of heroism and the first secret of success. In a life so complex now-a-days self-reliance alone may not deliver the goods. Self-Help unless tempered with sincere co-operation and mutual help may end in nothing. Self-Help makes a man bold. It develops sense of responsibility and perseverance. Once a man gains faith in himself, he is not ashamed of doing things without hesitation. Self-Help is a virtue that has to be acquired and is not born.
