UGC-SAP (DRS) INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS ISDS – 2008 16th FEBRUARY 2008 Organized by Department of Mathematics Gandhigram Rural University (GRU) Gandhigram – 624 302 Tamil Nadu Organizing Committee Patron Dr. M. R. Kubendran Chairman-IAC Convenor Dr. P. Balasubramaniam Co-Convenor Dr. R. Uthayakumar Members Shri. S. Parthasarathy Dr. S. R. Kannan Dr. G. Mahadevan
ABOUT OUR UNIVERSITY The Gandhigram Rural University was founded in 1956 with underlying faith and deep devotion to Mahatma Gandhiji’s Ideals and attained the status of deemed University in 1976. Today, it has become a National and Internationally reputed University for its contribution to rural higher education. In the Silver Jubilee year 2001-2002 the University was accredited with Five Star Status by NAAC. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1965 and it offered three year under graduate degree in Mathematics, two year post graduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Applications until 2004, thereafter the two year PG course was upgraded to three year M.Sc Tech(Industrial Mathematics with Computer applications). In addition M.Phil., and Doctoral programme is offered in several branches of Mathematics and Computer Applications, Optimization Theory and Algorithms, Mathematical Modeling, Control Theory, Neural Networks, Pattern Recognition, Stochastic differential Equations, Cryptosystems, Graph Theory, Fractal theory and fuzzy set theory. The department has a moderately good library with over 5000 books and back volumes of several journals. This library is receiving NBHM, UGC-SAP (DRS) and DST (FIST) library grants in addition to the UGC grants every year. The UGC has sanctioned the Special Assistance Programme (SAP) at the level of Departmental Research Support (DRS) for five years. The Department faculty members are doing collaborative research works in various international Institutions like University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, USA, University of Ioannina, Greece and Pusan National University, South Korea. On 21st August 2006, the department has signed MoU for Scientific Collaboration with department of Mathematics Yonsei University, Seoul, and South Koera. THEME OF THE SEMINAR Dynamical system is an emerging frontier area of research that plays an important role in characterizing many applications and plays a vital role as far as application side is concerned. Dynamical systems continue to be intensively studied, both from theoretical and applied viewpoints. The availability of powerful computers has allowed numerical investigation to comple ment theoretical analysis. Moreover, topological methods for studying the qualitative behavior of systems augment the more traditional quantitative approach. The subject is stimulated by an increasingly diverse range of applications. The dynamical systems are now used to model phenomena in biology, geography, economics and internet traffics as well as in the traditional disciplines of control engineering problems, physics, ergodic theory, bifurcation theory and many other fields. This international symposium envisages elaborate lectures by leading international resource persons and other experts in the area of control theory
