The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage – INTACH is a voluntary organization dedicated to the conservation of India’s rich natural & cultural diversity. INTACH suggests a way to introduce a cultural component into the education for young people. The youth of this country are the ‘inheritors’ of the wealth of the Nation and it is critical that they imbibe values and principles of Indian Heritage so that not only they become better citizens but also manage the heritage better.
ACTION PLAN :
A 2-day workshop for Group Leaders
The workshop will consist of sessions on :
- The concept of cultural conservation
- The role of the youth in preserving the rich diversity of India’s natural & cultural heritage
- Field work
- Development of the syllabus for the Proficiency Badge for Heritage
Syllabus for the Proficiency Badge for Heritage
The working syllabus outline to be finalized at the workshop understanding the Indian Culture.
1. Listing the historic buildings and natural feature of their region, town or village.
2. Collecting information about poets, scholars, artists, craft people of the region.
3. Maintaining an illustrated historical diary of their region, city, town or village.
4. Organizing and participating in quiz programmes on Indian Culture.
5. Identifying problems and issues for preservation(informing the local authority etc).
6. Visit to monuments and sites in the neighbourhood.
7. Adopting a site in the locality – a monument or unique natural feature such as a lake or a hillside.
8. Caring for the site – keeping it clean.
9. Organizing an exhibition or programmes on or at the site.
10. Serving as Guides to the monuments for local schools and the community.
11. Creative activites – learning local craft, music etc.
