I think the Nari Niketan means a shelter for women in distress / pain. They help women who have problems in society like -problems after marriage ( husband beating wife, husband not taking care, etc), child marriage,
If a woman victim doesn't want to remain at her-in-laws house, then, with her consent, she will be shifted to NARI NIKETAN being run by the Governmental...
The short-stay home where the victims can be shifted temporarily, are as under:
Sector-26, Chandigarh. (being run by the Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh).
Sector-15, Chandigarh. (being run by the Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh).
The 'Helpline' would be headed by a lady NGO. She shall be assisted by 4 lady ORs and 1 lady Home Guard Volunteer. Only trained sensitised lady police personnel shall be deputed so that victim could be encouraged to communicate and discuss their problems without any hesitation.
Nari Niketan is a is an organisation created to help the woman and Child in distress since they are very vulnerable to psychological and physical abuse and also violence.
Those who go through such distress and also the ones who see such things happening can call and the number 1091 is totally toll free.
This women and child help unit provides assistance to the woman or child who is in trouble, by coordinating with the society, to provide relief and protection of legal rights to the victims.
This group acts as a nodal point for the police and the society to join hands together so as to facilitate relief and rehabilitation.
This help line will work round the clock on all days and no holidays for them. Telecommunications have allotted a toll free number 1091 to call them. the phone will be attended by the women police personnel.
Nari Niketan cares for and protects the neglected section of society widows, destitute and divorced women and looks after orphans and illegal/unwanted and unclaimed children.
The institution is housed in a large building of its own with different departments. Presently, The Nari-Niketan is officially managed by the Patron Sh. I.K.
