First Army Headquarters: Army headquarters was first housed in Red Fort Delhi.
Highest bettleground: Siachen is a 76.8 Km river of ice abutted by knife edged, fluted, serrated gidge lines sometimes exceeding 7, 100 m (23, 288 feet). Temperatures dip to a bitter -55 degree celcius. varying from 15,000 to 21,000 ft somtimes face bitterly cold 200 kmph blizzards.
First oldest artillery company: The first Artilery Company was raised temporarily in 1748 with Indian troops called Gun Lascars. A company of Bombay Artillery, which still exists as 5 Bombay Mountain Battery, was raissed on September 20, 1827, celetrated as Gunners Day ever since.
Indian Military Academy: Indian Military Academy (IMA) was inaugurated on December 10, 1932, by field Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode Bart. Then C - in -C Brig LP Collins was the first Commandant. The batch, The Pioneers, passed out in 1934.Its alumni have won one VC -Lt (later Gen) PS Bhagat four param veer Charkras, nine Ashok Chakras, one Sarvotam yudh seva Medal, 74 maha bir Chakras, 28 Kirti Chakras, 18 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, 197 Vir Chakras and 119 Shaurya Chakras, Its present strength is 1, 207 Gentlemen Cadets, including two from other countries. Its alumni inludes 450 officers who died in action.
First administrative unit: Army Service Corps (ACS) was established in 1748 when Stringer Lawrence, commander - in - Chief in India, appointed Robert Clive as the Commissary. It was formally set up in 1760 in the Presidencies of Bengal, Madras and Bombay and became a formal Supply and Transport Corps in 1901.
Oldest Infantry Unit: Raised on August 4, 1768, I Maratha Light Infantry or Jangi Paltan is the only Unit that does not hang captured enemy flags upside down in its Mess. It was also the first to announce India's Independence by hoisting the tricolour in Japan at midninght on August 14 - 15, 1947, five hours ahead of independent India. In 1971,I MLI wiped out the entire31 Baluch of the Pakistani Army, which has never been re-raised. It is also the only Unit which was in constant battle for 20 years after it was raissed, with 18 battle honours.
