Recruitment of Project Jr. Research Fellow (two positions)
(Last Dt: 22-02-2008)

Applications are invited for two JRF positions to work in the Computational Quantum Chemistry project entitled “Bonds and Bands of Aromatic Systems with Exo-p-Interactions: Insights and Implications” funded by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.

The fellowship is for a period of three years and fellowship amount is Rs. 12,000/-pm. + HRA for the first two years and Rs.14,000/- pm + HRA for the final year.

The project involves characterization of the nature of exo-p- interactions with aromatic groups, and associated torsional preferences with varying substituents. It also needs the identification of key application domains where these p-interactions are influential and eventually design novel systems based on the knowledge arrived from small molecules.

The primary application areas are limited to two; conformational preferences of Bio/Drug molecules and characterization of the nature of frontier bands in covalent materials that contains aromatic sub-systems.

Among the two selected JRFs, one is expected to do computations on materials while the other will investigate large bio-molecules. The basic requirement is a Masters degree in Chemistry (with minimum of 55% marks) though PG students of Physics/Biochemisty with strong background in theory also will be considered. Students with knowledge in computational chemistry/programming, NET/GATE qualification, proficiency in English (written and spoken) are preferred. The selected candidates can also register for a Ph.D from Pondicherry University in chemistry, through the formal selection procedure.

Interested candidates please submit their curriculum vitae, and a brief description of research interests on or before Feb 22, 2008. For questions/clarifications, please call or send an e-mail.

Applications should be sent by postal mail to:

Dr. Musiri M. Balakrishnarajan,
Lecturer in Chemistry,
Department of Chemistry,
Pondicherry University,
Pondicherry – 605 014.
