Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today greeted teachers on the eve of Teachers Day.
The Governor in his message said the teacher-taught relationship was the very foundation of education, adding updating of knowledge, dedication towards service and the personality of teachers had a great influence on the students.
Teachers should function as role models and rededicate themselves to the nobler ideals of the profession in pursuit of making education meaningful, he said.
In his message, Karunanidhi said teachers who remove the darkness of ignorance and shed light of knowledge were the roots of the country's progress.
The DMK government had granted all concessions "snatched away" by the previous government and appointed 5,098 teachers as per their seniority in registration at employment exchanges, he added. (Agencies)
